Download or read book Tailless Aircraft Control Allocation written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a flight controller for a tail-less aircraft with a large suite of conventional and unconventional control effectors. The controller structure is modular to take advantages of individual technologies from the areas of plant parameter estimation, control allocation, and robust feedback control. Linear models generated off-line provide plant parameter estimates for control. Dynamic inversion control provides direct satisfaction of flying qualities requirements in the presence of uncertainties. The focus of this paper, however, is control allocation. Control allocation is posed as constrained parameter optimization to minimize an objective that is a function of the control surface deflections. The control law is decomposed into a sequence of prioritized partitions, and additional optimization variables scale the control partitions to provide optimal command limiting which prevent actuator saturation. Analysis shows that appropriate prioritization of dynamic inversion control laws provides graceful command and loop response degradation for unachievable commands. Preliminary simulation results show that command variable response remains decoupled for unachievable commands while other command limiting methods may result in unacceptable coupled response.

Book Synopsis Improving Control Allocation Accuracy for Nonlinear Aircraft Dynamics by : David B. Doman
Download or read book Improving Control Allocation Accuracy for Nonlinear Aircraft Dynamics written by David B. Doman and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The forces and moments produced by a vehicle's aerodynamic control surfaces are often nonlinear functions of control surface deflection. This phenomenon limits the accuracy of state-of-the-art control allocation algorithms since all of the approaches are based on the assumption that the control variable rates are linear functions of the surface deflections and that control variable rate increments are not produced for zero deflections. The errors introduced by this assumption are currently mitigated by the robustness resulting from feedback control laws. A method for improving the performance of the feedback control/control allocation system is presented that directly attacks the inaccuracies introduced by these linear assumptions.

Download or read book Constrained Control Allocation Methods for Reconfigurable Flight Control Laws written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the project was to develop and analyze methods for control in the presence of actuator saturation. Algorithms were investigated for control allocation, that is, for the problem of distributing control requirements among redundant actuators. A new implementation of the direct allocation method of Durham was proposed. The direct allocation method was chosen because it utilized all of the attainable moment set. A special representation of the moment set in spherical coordinates was considered to speed-up the real- time computations and two rapid search methods were developed and successfully implemented. The direct allocation method was also extended to systems that had previously been excluded, namely those for which subsets of three actuator commands produce linearly dependent moments. Testing of the algorithms was performed using simulation models of a military transport aircraft and of a tailless aircraft.

Many of today’s products contain multiple engineering technologies, and what were once simple mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic products now contain integrated electronics and sensors. Control theory reduces these widely varied technical components into their important dynamic characteristics, expressed as transfer functions, from which the subtleties of dynamic behaviours can be analyzed and understood. Stability and Control of Aircraft Systems is an easy-to-read and understand text that describes control theory using minimal mathematics. It focuses on simple rules, tools and methods for the analysis and testing of feedback control systems using real systems engineering design and development examples. Clarifies the design and development of feedback control systems Communicates the theory in an accessible manner that does not require the reader to have a strong mathematical background Illustrated throughout with figures and tables Stability and Control of Aircraft Systems provides both the seasoned engineer and the graduate with the know-how necessary to minimize problems with fielded systems in the area of operational performance.
Book Synopsis Reconfigurable Flight Control Designs with Application to the X-33 Vehicle by : John J. Burken
Download or read book Reconfigurable Flight Control Designs with Application to the X-33 Vehicle written by John J. Burken and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two methods for control system reconfiguration have been investigated. The first method is a robust servomechanism control approach (optimal tracking problem) that is a generalization of the classical proportional-plus-integral control to multiple input-multiple output systems. The second method is a control-allocation approach based on a quadratic programming formulation. A globally convergent fixed-point iteration algorithm has been developed to make onboard implementation of this method feasible. These methods have been applied to reconfigurable entry flight control design for the X-33 vehicle. Examples presented demonstrate simultaneous tracking of angle-of-attack and roll angle commands during failures of the right body flap actuator. Although simulations demonstrate success of the first method in most cases, the control-allocation method appears to provide uniformly better performance in all cases.
