Book excerpt: Smart Agrochemicals for Sustainable Agriculture proposes products that fulfill the need for chemicals that provide a sustainable delivery system for nutrients necessary to maximize the production of agricultural animals and plants while producing the smallest possible environmental footprint. This book addresses all aspects related to the production process, including chemical formulas, stability of formulations, and the application of the effect of its utilization. Over the past decade, biobased chemicals have received significant attention as candidate resource materials in fertilizers and agrochemicals production due to their renewability. Substitution of conventional raw materials with biobased requires a new approach towards the development of technology. On the other hand, the use of biobased chemicals, such as biostimulants, bioregulators and biofertilizers offers a new palette of products that are natural, thus their application does not pose an impact on the environment (residues) or cultivated plants. - Presents ideas for new products that provide appropriate nutrition while limiting environmental footprints - Includes a full range of the production process, from chemical formulas to establishing the stability of formulations, applications and effects - Offers a host of new products that are natural and whose applications do not negatively impact the environment nor cultivated plants

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enormous increases in agricultural productivity can properly be associated with the use of chemicals. This statement applies equally to crop production through the use of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, as to livestock production and the associated use of drugs, steroids and other growth accelerators. There is, however a dark side to this picture and it is important to balance the benefits which flow from the use of agricultural chemicals against their environmental impacts which sometimes are seriously disadvantageous. Agricultural Chemicals and the Environment explores a variety of issues which currently are subject to wide-ranging debate and are of concern not only to the scientific establishment and to students, but also to farmers, landowners, managers, legislators, and to the general public.

Book excerpt: In the past the term "agrochemicals" has mainly been associated with plant protection, i.e. synthetic chemicals used to protect plants in the fields against various pests. This term was broadened by the introduction of e.g. plant growth regulators (plant hormones, closely related to herbicides) and juvenile hormones (related to insecticides). However, more recently the term "agrochemicals" has further broadened in the sense that it includes alI synthetic chemicals used in pre-planting, planting, growth, harvest- ing and storage of agricultural commodities, leading to the broader term "crop protec- tion products". In this current publication "Agrochemicals", fertilizers are also included, although they are traditionally thought not to falI under the term crop protection products. However, the maio goal to use crop protection products is to ensure the production ofhealthy plants and to increase their yields. In this context crop protection products alone could not achieve the mentioned goal without providing the plants with the necessary nutrients. Consequently, in a holistic approach of crop protection ferti- lizers are an integral part of agrochemicals.

This book was released on 2022-02-02 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agrochemicals are chemical agents that are applied to fields to boost the nutrient content of the soil or crops. Herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides are among them, as are synthetic fertilizers, hormones, and soil conditioners. They boost agricultural growth by eradicating pests that wreak havoc. They are used in horticulture, dairy farming, poultry farming, crop shifting, commercial planting, and other farming industries. A pesticide is any substance that is used to kill, repel, or control pests in plants or animals. Insecticides are chemicals that are used to keep insects under control by killing them or stopping them from engaging in undesired or damaging behaviour. Their structure and mode of action are used to classify them. Fungicides are pesticides that kill or prevent fungus and their spores from growing. They can be used to manage plant-damaging fungi such as rusts, mildews, and blights. They could also be used to keep moulds and mildew at bay in other places. Herbicides are chemicals that are used to control or manage unwanted vegetation. Herbicides are most commonly used in row-crop farming, where they are treated before or during planting to increase crop productivity while reducing other vegetation. The global agrochemicals market estimated size is CAGR of 3.4%. Increasing demand for food supply due to the rapid growth in the human population has triggered agricultural intensification. Agrochemicals are widely employed in agriculture to meet rising food demands, bridging the gap between food supply and consumption. Concurrently imbalanced use of agrochemicals, on the other hand, degrades the environment and poses serious threats to aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Chemical agents used in agricultural lands to increase nutrient shortage in the field or crop are known as agrochemicals. They also help to boost crop development by destroying hazardous insects. Agrochemicals increase the quantity and quality of agricultural goods. These are utilized in horticulture, dairy farming, cattle, grain farming, shifting cultivation, commercial plantation, and many other agricultural fields. The book covers a wide range of topics connected to Pesticides, Insecticides, Fungicides and Herbicides, as well as their manufacturing processes. It also includes contact information for machinery suppliers, as well as images of equipments. A complete guide on Agrochemical Products manufacture and entrepreneurship. This book serves as a one-stop shop for everything you need to know about the Pesticides, Insecticides, Fungicides and Herbicides manufacturing industry, which is ripe with opportunity for manufacturers, merchants, and entrepreneurs. This is the only book that covers Agrochemical in depth. From concept through equipment procurement, it is a veritable feast of how-to information.

Book excerpt: This important volume provides new research on the design and application of ecologically safe formulations for protecting cultivated crops against pathogen-causing diseases and weeds—that also provide nitrogen fertilizers at the same time. The authors make a significant contribution to the development and agricultural use of environmentally safe and biodegradable new-generation pesticides with targeted and controlled release of active ingredients. They discuss the problems associated with the use and accumulation of xenobiotics in the biosphere and present highlights of modern trends in the design of new-generation formulations. The authors present their original research results on the properties of herbicides, fungicides, and nitrogen fertilizers deposited in a degradable polymer base and the effectiveness of the use of these formulations in laboratory ecosystems with higher plants infected with fusariosis and weeds. The research provided here provides a new direction for the use of degradable polymers, essential for the creation of ecologically safe agricultural technologies and reducing uncontrolled accumulation and spread of xenobiotics in the biosphere.

More specifically, three important heterogeneous processes, namely, adsorption, ion exchange and catalysis, are analysed, from fundamental kinetics to reactor design with emphasis on their environmental applications. In Chapter 1, the subject of air and water pollution is dealt with. Data about pollutants and emission sources are given and the treatment methods are shortly presented. In Chapter 2, the very basics and historical development of adsorption, ion exchange and catalysis are presented as well as their environmental applications. Chapter 3 is devoted to heterogeneous processes and reactor analysis. All types of reactors are described in depth and reactor modelling, hydraulics and mass/heat transfer phenomena are examined for each type of reactor. Chapters 4 and 5 are dedicated to adsorption & ion exchange and catalysis, respectively. The basic principles are presented including kinetics, equilibrium, mass/heat transfer phenomena as well as the analytical solutions of the reactor models presented in Chapter 3. In the sixth chapter, the subject of scale up is approached. The two Annexes at the end of the book contain physical properties of substances of environmental interest as well as unit conversion tables. Finally, nearly all the examples contained are based on real experimental data found in literature with environmental interest. Most of the examples consider all aspects of operation design – kinetics, hydraulics and mass transfer.* Provides basic knowledge of major environmental problems and connects them to chemical engineering
