Book Synopsis The Agricultural Sector of Namibia by : Kurt R. Anschel
Download or read book The Agricultural Sector of Namibia written by Kurt R. Anschel and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prepared in cooperation with the South East Consortium for International Development, this is a substantial paper. It concentrates mainly on capitalist stock-farming and peasant agriculture appears only incidentally. Brief mention is also made of the fishing industry. The analysis, framed in terms of orthodox market economics, proceeds from a general geographical and political introduction to a survey of the present situation in agriculture. The data presented, although competently arranged, are limited by reliance on the small and often out-of-date range of published English-language literature. The report concludes with a brief assessment of constraints and priorities in post-independence agricultural development, concentrating on technical, institutional and environmental factors rather than political issues such as land tenure and income distribution. It advocates greater stock-farming output and the commercialization of crop production in the northern bantustans. (Eriksen/Moorsom 1989).

This book was released on 2023-01-18 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring Economic Reintegration in Namibia: Individual Trajectories of PLAN Ex-Fighters and SWAPO Exiles, 1989–2018 draws from life histories to present constraints and possibilities that have shaped former SWAPO exiles’ economic reintegration in post-colonial Namibia from 1989 through 2018. The book advances three arguments, each of which pushes beyond existing scholarship on Namibia and/or economic reintegration broadly. Collectively, these arguments challenge dominant narratives that have generalized former SWAPO exiles’ economic reintegration experiences, highlighting that there is no single narrative that can describe their unique life stories of reintegration in the post-colony.

Book Synopsis The Ju/’hoan San of Nyae Nyae and Namibian Independence by : Megan Biesele
Download or read book The Ju/’hoan San of Nyae Nyae and Namibian Independence written by Megan Biesele and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2010-11-01 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ju/’hoan San, or Ju/’hoansi, of Namibia and Botswana are perhaps the most fully described indigenous people in all of anthropology. This is the story of how this group of former hunter-gatherers, speaking an exotic click language, formed a grassroots movement that led them to become a dynamic part of the new nation that grew from the ashes of apartheid South West Africa. While coverage of this group in the writings of Richard Lee, Lorna Marshall, Elizabeth Marshall Thomas, and films by John Marshall includes extensive information on their traditional ways of life, this book continues the story as it has unfolded since 1990. Peopled with accounts of and from contemporary Ju>/’hoan people, the book gives newly-literate Ju/’hoansi the chance to address the world with their own voices. In doing so, the images and myths of the Ju/’hoan and other San (previously called “Bushmen”) as either noble savages or helpless victims are discredited. This important book demonstrates the responsiveness of current anthropological advocacy to the aspirations of one of the best-known indigenous societies.
