Book Synopsis The EEA Review and Liechtenstein's Integration Strategy by : Jacques Pelkmans
Download or read book The EEA Review and Liechtenstein's Integration Strategy written by Jacques Pelkmans and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the European Economic Area (EEA), an example of deep market integration between the European Union and non-EU member countries Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. The EEA is, in fact, often referred to as the "internal-market-minus" (i.e. minus agriculture and fisheries), for the three countries. Generating a mere one percent of the EU single market GDP, the EEA has attracted little attention, not least because it functions quite well. Even less known, however, is the role of Liechtenstein within the EEA, which this book also attempts to clarify. After 18 years of existence, the EEA is now undergoing a thorough review. This in-depth study looks at how the EEA works and what the current review of this economic area might imply. Nine scenarios of European integration are explored, with an analysis of their respective advantages, shortcomings, and costs. The book also discusses Liechtenstein's critical and changing relationship with Switzerland, new options for Turkey, whether there should be more or less EU involvement, and an EEA-type option for the United Kingdom that would not entail amending the EEA Treaty.
Book Synopsis Business Law in the European Economic Area by : Christopher Bright
Download or read book Business Law in the European Economic Area written by Christopher Bright and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1994 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Economic Area (EEA) is a new trade area created by the EEA treaty, which came into effect in January 1994. Its members include some of Europe's smaller but most economically secure nations, such as Austria, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. The EEA effectively extends the EC by adopting many of its rules without requiring these nations to become full members of the Community. Important both as a legal system and as a new experiment in international economic relations, the EEA provides new challenges and opportunities for business, legal practitioners, and those interested in the development of trading blocks. This book examines the main features of the EEA Agreement, in particular the aspects of the Agreement which will most affect business people and lawyers--competition law, environmental law, and intellectual property. This book provides a timely guide, for legal practitioners, business people, and scholars, through the maze of rules and regulations embodied in the EEA Agreement.
Book Synopsis The Handbook of EEA Law by : Carl Baudenbacher
Download or read book The Handbook of EEA Law written by Carl Baudenbacher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-11 with total page 869 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Handbook comprehensively addresses the breadth of law encompassed by the EEA Agreement, which extends the European Union’s Single Market to three EFTA countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The Handbook is first and foremost intended for practitioners and legal scholars, but its approachable style makes it readily accessible for students. The Handbook provides the reader with a thorough grounding in the EEA Agreement, detailing how secondary EU law becomes applicable in the EFTA pillar, and the roles played by the EFTA Surveillance Authority and the EFTA Court. It considers the EEA Agreement from the respective perspectives of the national authorities, courts, and the legal professions of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The book meticulously examines substantive EEA law, beginning with the general principles and the four freedoms, through competition law and State aid to such aspects as the precautionary principle, tax law and mutual administrative and legal assistance. Emphasis is placed on jurisprudence and especially that of the EFTA Court. Each chapter has been written by a judge, noted practitioner or eminent academic in their respective fields and the book is divided into twelve parts: Part I History and main features of the EEA Agreement Part II Genesis of EEA Law Part III Institutions and Procedure Part IV National Authorities in the EFTA Pillar Part V National Courts in the EFTA Pillar Part VI The Practicing Bar in the EFTA Pillar Part VII General Principles and Prohibition Part VIII The Fundamental Freedoms Part IX Competition Law and Related Matters Part X Further Areas of Economic Law Part XI Law of Natural and Economic Resources Part XII Social Protection and Public Health

Book Synopsis Transboundary Environmental Impact Assessment in the European Union by : Simon Marsden
Download or read book Transboundary Environmental Impact Assessment in the European Union written by Simon Marsden and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines 'The Espoo Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context', which celebrates the twentieth anniversary of its adoption in 2011, and its 'Kiev Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment' which came into force in July 2010. In addition to contributing to international environmental law, the Convention has prompted significant changes to European environmental law. The chapters in this collection explain the role of transboundary environmental impact assessment in international and European law, and explore the relationship between international and European law in the context of potential application of the Convention. They also examine examples of the Convention in practice, and consider the potential application of the Protocol. While the focus of the book is on the situation in the European Union, reference is made to the relationship between EU and non-EU member states, notably in connection with important cases in the Arctic, the Danube Delta and the Baltic Sea.

Book Synopsis Expanding Membership of the European Union by : Richard E. Baldwin
Download or read book Expanding Membership of the European Union written by Richard E. Baldwin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1995-10-27 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compelling volume, from the Centre for Economic Policy Research, examines the discussion surrounding expansion of the European Union (EU). The contributors address the key issues in the debate, including the implications of expansion for the global trading system, enlargement-related pressures to reform EU decision-making, and the economic consequences of membership for entrants. Using theoretical techniques to report results and insights, this book not only sheds light on the consequences of Austria, Finland and Sweden joining the EU, but also discusses and evaluates the possible membership of Central European ex-socialist countries. This is an important book for students and scholars interested in regional integration, and also for policy-makers in the new EU member countries and in applicant countries.
