Book excerpt: The final book in the Dark Fae FBI series. The Fae war is coming, and I'm caught right in the middle. My father, the ruthless Unseelie king, is dead. It should have been our moment of triumph. Instead, we find ourselves hiding in London from our ancient enemies, the Seelie. From Roan's city mansion, we need to unite the six Unseelie courts to fight back. Unfortunately, centuries-old feuds make this almost impossible. To make things worse, there's no good reason for anyone to listen to us. After all, I'm just a pixie bastard. Did I mention that my dread powers are gone? If that weren't enough, I need to decide if I want to live forever in the world of the humans, or the world of the fae with Roan. Sure--he's gorgeous and loyal, but do I want to spend forever in this chaos? As the Seelie encroach on our territory, it's time to see if Roan and I--terror and love--can really change the world together.

To make matters worse, my best friend Scarlett has been abducted, and her captor is playing a twisted game of "Simon Says," sending me riddles paired with impossible tasks. Rage is simmering under the surface, and when it boils, I'll unleash a fire of my own.

Book excerpt: A cryptid woman gifted with supernatural powers must save her friends in this stunning conclusion to a dark fantasy trilogy by a New York Times bestseller. 1986: Rebecca Essig leaves a slumber party early but comes home to a massacre—committed by her own parents. Only one of her siblings has survived. But as the tragic event unfolds, she begins to realize that other than a small army of six-year-olds, she is among very few survivors of a nationwide slaughter. The Reaping has begun. Present day: Pregnant and on the run with a small band of compatriots, Delilah Marlow is determined to bring her baby into the world safely and secretly. But she isn’t used to sitting back while others suffer, and she’s desperate to reunite Zyanya, the cheetah shifter, with her brother and children. To find a way for Lenore the siren to see her husband. To find Rommily’s missing Oracle sisters. To unify this adopted family of fellow cryptids she came to love and rely on in captivity. But Delilah is about to discover that her role in the human versus cryptid war is destined to be much larger—and more dangerous—than she ever could have imagined. Weaving together past and present in this heartbreaking tale of sacrifice and self-discovery, Fury is the deeply moving finale to a series that readers won’t soon forget. Praise for Fury “This gripping novel, set in the immediate aftermath of the events of Spectacle, concludes Vincent’s Menagerie series in marvelous fashion. . . . The book is a fitting finale to an exceptional dark fantasy series, as memorable for its sensitive depiction of a marginalized race as for its surprising plot twists.” —Publishers Weekly, Starred Review

Book excerpt: Armed conflicts have become more complicated, with the emphasis shifting towards new weapons such as drones, cybercrime and autonomous weapons. In July 2017, the UN General Assembly adopted the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. This treaty prohibits a full range of nuclear-weapon-related activities, such as undertaking to develop, test, produce, manufacture, acquire, possess or stockpile nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices, as well as the use or threat of use of these weapons. The ongoing conflicts have shown that the consequences of the use of explosive weapons are not limited to death, physical injury and disability, but also include long-term impacts on mental well-being. The use of improvised weapons by States and non-State actors is an area of concern for the environment. Every State must, therefore, ensure that weapons used by their armed forces are explicitly adjudged under International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Human Rights Law. While reviewing a new weapon, the States must adopt multilateral approaches, drawing upon relevant legal, health, environmental and military expertise. This book describes the environmental effects of eight weapons and explosive remnants of war that have caused extensive environmental harm in the recent past. It also makes specific recommendations addressed to the international community and the States for protecting the natural environment from the impact of weapons of war. This book will contribute towards a better understanding of the environmental harm caused by military weapons.
