The stated objectives of the Agreement are to preserve Inuvialuit cultural identity and values within a changing northern Society, to enable the Inuvialuit to be equal and meaningful participants in the northern and national economy and society, and to protect and preserve the Arctic wildlife, environment and biological productivity. This last objective, the protection and preservation of the Arctic environment, is a dominant theme in the Agreement .... Of fundamental importance is the recognition that such protection requires the effective integration of the Inuvialuit into all structures, functions and decisions pertaining to wildlife management and land management in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region"--Leaf [1].
