Book Synopsis Storage Tanks Selection, Design, Testing, Inspection, and Maintenance: Emission Management and Environmental Protection by : Karan Sotoodeh
Download or read book Storage Tanks Selection, Design, Testing, Inspection, and Maintenance: Emission Management and Environmental Protection written by Karan Sotoodeh and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-01-19 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emission prevention and environmental protection are hot topics in the oil and gas industry and many countries, especially in the United States. Among sources of pollution in the oil and gas industry, storage tanks used to store products such as oil or liquefied natural gas (LNG) are considered the second most significant source of emissions after industrial valves. Storage Tanks Selection, Design, Testing, Inspection, and Maintenance: Emission Management and Environmental Protection provides the latest research and technological advancements in storage tank design including materials selection, welding, and techniques used order to reduce or prevent emissions. This book will detail essential information regarding inspections, testing, and maintenance that are performed to prevent the failure of storage tanks and will also explore the different types of storage tank emissions and provide recommendations for the preventive, as well as safety systems that are critical to minimize the failure of storage tanks. Researchers, engineers, industry professionals, and students in the environmental safety field will find this book to be a welcomed resource to learning about and working on storage tank emissions in the oil and gas industries. Provides detailed understanding of the problems and hazards of emission in the oil and gas industries Presents mechanical designs of storage tanks by considering various loads (e.g., axial, bending, wind, earthquake, etc.) to prevent failure Details studies of corrosion assessment of storage tanks Introduces safety systems in the oil and gas industries and the effect of tank selection on emission
Book Synopsis Gravity Energy Storage by : Asmae Berrada
Download or read book Gravity Energy Storage written by Asmae Berrada and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2019-05-21 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gravity Energy Storage provides a comprehensive analysis of a novel energy storage system that is based on the working principle of well-established, pumped hydro energy storage, but that also recognizes the differences and benefits of the new gravity system. This book provides coverage of the development, feasibility, design, performance, operation, and economics associated with the implementation of such storage technology. In addition, a number of modeling approaches are proposed as a solution to various difficulties, such as proper sizing, application, value and optimal design of the system. The book includes both technical and economic aspects to guide the realization of this storage system in the right direction. Finally, political considerations and barriers are addressed to complement this work. Discusses the feasibility of gravity energy storage technology Analyzes the storage system by modelling various system components Uniquely discusses the characteristics of this technology, giving consideration to its use as an attractive solution to the integration of large-scale, intermittent renewable energy

Book Synopsis An End State Methodology for Identifying Technology Needs for Environmental Management, with an Example from the Hanford Site Tanks by : National Research Council
Download or read book An End State Methodology for Identifying Technology Needs for Environmental Management, with an Example from the Hanford Site Tanks written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-03-16 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major issue in the cleanup of this country's nuclear weapons complex is how to dispose of the radioactive waste resulting primarily from the chemical processing operations for the recovery of plutonium and other defense strategic nuclear materials. The wastes are stored in hundreds of large underground tanks at four U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) sites throughout the United States. The tanks contain hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of radioactive and hazardous waste. Most of it is high-level waste (HLW), some of it is transuranic (TRU) or low- level waste (LLW), and essentially all containing significant amounts of chemicals deemed hazardous. Of the 278 tanks involved, about 70 are known or assumed to have leaked some of their contents to the environment. The remediation of the tanks and their contents requires the development of new technologies to enable cleanup and minimize costs while meeting various health, safety, and environmental objectives. While DOE has a process based on stakeholder participation for screening and formulating technology needs, it lacks transparency (in terms of being apparent to all concerned decision makers and other interested parties) and a systematic basis (in terms of identifying end states for the contaminants and developing pathways to these states from the present conditions). An End State Methodology for Identifying Technology Needs for Environmental Management, with an Example from the Hanford Site Tanks describes an approach for identifying technology development needs that is both systematic and transparent to enhance the cleanup and remediation of the tank contents and their sites. The authoring committee believes that the recommended end state based approach can be applied to DOE waste management in general, not just to waste in tanks. The approach is illustrated through an example based on the tanks at the DOE Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state, the location of some 60 percent by volume of the tank waste residues.
