This book was released on 2008 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book at hand presents a careful selection of relevant applications of CI methods for transport, logistics, and supply chain management problems. The chapters illustrate the current state-of-the-art in the application of CI methods in these fields and should help and inspire researchers and practitioners to apply and develop efficient methods. A few contributions in this book are extended versions of papers presented at EvoTransLog2007: The First European Workshop on Evolutionary Computation in Transportation and Logistics which was held in Valencia, Spain, in 2007. The majority of contributions are from additional, specially selected researchers, who have done relevant work in different areas of transport, logistics, and supply chain management. The goal is to broadly cover representative applications in these fields as well as different types of solution approaches. On the application side, the contributions focus on design of traffic and transportation networks, vehicle routing, and other important aspects of supply chain management such as inventory management, lot sizing, and lot scheduling. On the method side, the contributions deal with evolutionary algorithms, local search approaches, and scatter search combined with other CI techniques such as neural networks or fuzzy approaches. The book is structured according to the application domains. Thus, it has three parts dealing with traffic and transportation networks, vehicle routing, and supply chain management.

This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with complex problems in the fields of logistics and supply chain management and discusses advanced methods, especially from the field of computational intelligence (CI), for solving them. The first two chapters provide general introductions to logistics and supply chain management on the one hand, and to computational intelligence on the other hand. The subsequent chapters cover specific fields in logistics and supply chain management, work out the most relevant problems found in those fields, and discuss approaches for solving them. Chapter 3 discusses problems in the field of production and inventory management. Chapter 4 considers planning activities on a finer level of granularity which is usually denoted as scheduling. In chapter 5 problems in transportation planning such as different types of vehicle routing problems are considered. While chapters 3 to 5 rather discuss planning problems which appear on an operative level, chapter 6 discusses the strategic problem of designing a supply chain or network. The final chapter provides an overview of academic and commercial software and information systems for the discussed applications. There appears to be a gap between general textbooks on logistics and supply chain management and more specialized literature dealing with methods for computational intelligence, operations research, etc., for solving the complex operational problems in these fields. For readers, it is often difficult to proceed from introductory texts on logistics and supply chain management to the sophisticated literature which deals with the usage of advanced methods. This book fills this gap by providing state-of-the-art descriptions of the corresponding problems and suitable methods for solving them.

Book excerpt: The first notable feature of this book is its innovation: Computational intelligence (CI), a fast evolving area, is currently attracting lots of researchers’ attention in dealing with many complex problems. At present, there are quite a lot competing books existing in the market. Nevertheless, the present book is markedly different from the existing books in that it presents new paradigms of CI that have rarely mentioned before, as opposed to the traditional CI techniques or methodologies employed in other books. During the past decade, a number of new CI algorithms are proposed. Unfortunately, they spread in a number of unrelated publishing directions which may hamper the use of such published resources. These provide us with motivation to analyze the existing research for categorizing and synthesizing it in a meaningful manner. The mission of this book is really important since those algorithms are going to be a new revolution in computer science. We hope it will stimulate the readers to make novel contributions or even start a new paradigm based on nature phenomena. Although structured as a textbook, the book's straightforward, self-contained style will also appeal to a wide audience of professionals, researchers and independent learners. We believe that the book will be instrumental in initiating an integrated approach to complex problems by allowing cross-fertilization of design principles from different design philosophies. The second feature of this book is its comprehensiveness: Through an extensive literature research, there are 134 innovative CI algorithms covered in this book.

Book excerpt: We describe in this book, new methods and applications of hybrid intelligent systems using soft computing techniques. Soft Computing (SC) consists of several intelligent computing paradigms, including fuzzy logic, neural networks, and evolutionary al- rithms, which can be used to produce powerful hybrid intelligent systems. The book is organized in five main parts, which contain a group of papers around a similar subject. The first part consists of papers with the main theme of intelligent control, which are basically papers that use hybrid systems to solve particular problems of control. The second part contains papers with the main theme of pattern recognition, which are basically papers using soft computing techniques for achieving pattern recognition in different applications. The third part contains papers with the themes of intelligent agents and social systems, which are papers that apply the ideas of agents and social behavior to solve real-world problems. The fourth part contains papers that deal with the hardware implementation of intelligent systems for solving particular problems. The fifth part contains papers that deal with modeling, simulation and optimization for real-world applications.

Book excerpt: In recent years, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques has been greatly increased. The term “intelligence” seems to be a “must” in a large number of European and International project calls. AI Techniques have been used in almost any domain. Application-oriented systems usually incorporate some kind of “intelligence” by using techniques stemming from intelligent search, knowledge representation, machine learning, knowledge discovery, intelligent agents, computational intelligence etc. The Workshop on “Applications with Artificial Intelligence” seeks for quality papers on computer applications that incorporate some kind of AI technique. The objective of the workshop was to bring together scientists, engineers and practitioners, who work on designing or developing applications that use intelligent techniques or work on intelligent techniques and apply them to application domains (like medicine, biology, education etc), to present and discuss their research works and exchange ideas in this book.

In general, operations and production management players use SCM to organize the problems and analyze the solution approaches. Due to these points, a reference which can encompass a range of problems and their modelling approaches is required. This book will contain three general sections of forward, reverse, intelligent, and uncertain problems. While the book provides different problems in the three commonly used categories in SCM, it is very helpful for the readers to find out, or adapt their own application studies to the ones given in the book and employ the corresponding modeliing approach.
