Book Synopsis Conducting Educational Research by : R. Murray Thomas
Download or read book Conducting Educational Research written by R. Murray Thomas and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1998-09-30 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emphasizing the comparative aspects of research, this introduction to educational research traces the process through five stages—choosing what to study, including specifying the research problem; collecting information; organizing and summarizing information; interpreting results; and reporting the outcomes. Each of the stages offers diverse options available to researchers for solving the problems of that stage, and a research project checklist at the end of each chapter guides readers in applying the chapter's contents to their own research studies. In much educational discourse, comparative education has referred solely to the study of educational similarities and differences between regions of the world or between two or more nations. This book uses the broader definition of the term to encompass a large body of research including studies focusing on comparisons between local educational systems, schools, classrooms, language groups, religious denominations, genders, social classes, and individual students. Students who are planning research projects as well as staff members of such organizations as ministries of education, school systems, bureaus of educational research, and educational aid agencies will find this volume indispensable.

Book Synopsis Cognitive Strategies for Special Education by : Adrian F. Ashman
Download or read book Cognitive Strategies for Special Education written by Adrian F. Ashman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-13 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on training programs for students with learning difficulties has usually focused on the development of social and behavioural skills and the acquisition of cognitive interventions and procedures. Originally published in 1989, this book attempts to apply the methods validated by research and synthesize the discoveries made in the psychological laboratory for the benefit of teachers in regular classrooms. It reviews the literature relevant to special needs teaching and traces the development of cognitive research as it applies to education. The authors propose a specific and practical teaching strategy which has been successfully used by those working with students with special needs. Starting from the basic belief that education is an interactive process between the participants, the authors have emphasised the role and responsibility both of the teacher and the learner. Their book should be of value to researchers and practitioners in psychology and special education.

Book Synopsis Anecdotes and Afterthoughts: Literature as a Teacher’s Curriculum by : Edward Podsiadlik III
Download or read book Anecdotes and Afterthoughts: Literature as a Teacher’s Curriculum written by Edward Podsiadlik III and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-23 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This qualitative journey explores how literature informs and challenges my under¬standing of teaching and learning. Insights, questions, and conflicts are revealed through a series of essays in which my evolving teacher identity is illuminated through literature and imagination. Hopefully reading this portrayal of literature, which has been a source of educational insight and imagination for me, will be of use to other educators as they reflect on their own teaching. The primary works of literature used to facilitate this journey are: The Red Badge of Courage (1895), Les Miserables (1862), and American Idiot (2004); Light in August (1932), Seinfeld scripts (1991-98), and Frankenstein (1818); and The Odyssey, Night (1960), and The Souls of Black Folk (1903). By delving beneath my exterior ‘teacher mask,’ a collage of images, anecdotes, reflections, aspirations, and fears is exposed. As a resource for pre-service teachers or a reflective exercise for veteran teachers, this study aims to benefit educators by providing a new pathway through which to better understand their intrinsic identities as teachers. Each chapter concludes with “Recommendations for Reflection” that readers are encouraged to consider individu¬ally and/or collectively. The spirit of daydreams allows me to integrate literature, autobiography, and imagi¬nation through inventive and inspired discourses with literary figures, using au¬thentic quotations as content for original commentaries that further examine the intrinsic nature of teacher identity. My hope is that this journey will inspire other educators to further reflect on realities and possibilities of what it means to be a teacher.
