Book Synopsis Peace Operations in the Francophone World by : Bruno Charbonneau
Download or read book Peace Operations in the Francophone World written by Bruno Charbonneau and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book critically examines peacebuilding, humanitarian intervention and peace operation practices and experiences in francophone spaces. Francophone Africa as a specific space is relatively little studied in the peace and security literature, despite the fact that almost half of all peacekeepers are deployed or were deployed in this part of Africa during the last decade. It is an arena for intervention that deserves more serious attention, if only because it provides fertile ground for exploring the key questions raised in the peacekeeping and peacebuilding literature. For instance, in 2002 a French operation (Licorne) was launched and in 2003 a UN force was deployed in Côte d’Ivoire alongside the French force there. Filling a gap in the current literature, Peace Operations in the Francophone World critically examines peacekeeping and peacebuilding practices in the francophone world, including but not limited to conflict prevention and resolution, security sector reform (SSR), francophone politics, and North–South relations. The book explores whether peace and security operations in francophone spaces have exceptional characteristics when compared with those carried out in other parts of the world and assesses whether an analysis of these operations in the francophone world can make a specific and original contribution to wider international debates about peacekeeping and peacebuilding. This book will be of much interest to students of peacekeeping, peacebuilding, peace and conflict studies, African politics, security studies, and IR in general.

Book excerpt: France has long pursued active cultural and scientific diplomacy, historically aiming to both ensure and celebrate the international presence of France in language, culture, communication, higher education, and research. French Scientific and Cultural Diplomacy asks whether such diplomacy is in danger. Examining the network of embassies, cultural institutions, and various agencies across a range of sectors, it asks whether and how French diplomatic efforts aimed at helping artists, cultural professionals, teachers, researchers, and intellectuals can be improved, arguing for a coherent foreign policy that better connects disparate sectors and promotes stronger partnerships.

Decision and policy-makers, scholars, sustainability and spiritual practitioners, social activists and citizens will benefit from: - an integral map of such a politics as it emerges; - concrete examples and recommendations in numerous areas ranging from education to governance, to justice and economy; - a complex question converted into a clear and tangible agenda; - a wealth of references to deepen their exploration; - and much more. Download or read book France Au XXIe Siècle written by Marie-Christine W. Koop and published by Summa Publications, Inc.. This book was released on 2009 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty-first century is now underway, and it's time to look at France once again as it moves into the new millennium. The current collection of essays explores cultural themes which are different than those in the editors' earlier volume, La France à l'aube du XXIe siècle: Tendances et mutations / France at the Dawn of the Twenty-First Century: Trends and Transformations, published in 2000 (Summa Publications; see Google Book Seach on home page). Among the topics explored in this new volume are the presidential election of 2007, changing dietary habits, the condition of women, environmental policies, the economy, education, social mobility, young people, religion, as well as contemporary music, cinema, regional theater, and literature. Articles on multiculturalism, the position of French in today's world, and France in the European Union also provide the reader with provocative insights. All chapters include extensive references (and web sites) and will be of interest to academics, teachers and students of contemporary French culture, and all Francophiles. For the classroom teacher, additional cultural information and activities will be found on the editors' own home page; this material will be updated on a regular basis, thus facilitating the task of presenting a modern-day France that is continuously changing. - Publisher.
