So late as 1817 a committee was appointed to build the stage, hold the candles, snuff them, carry water, and do all the little drudgeries implied in the nature of their office Their successors - the honorable Committee of Arrangements - who now do the honors of Society to the Judges, and fare sumptuously with these dignitaries, at its expense, may congra tulate themselves 011 this evidence of progress. Offices half a century ago, were no sinecures, and the little drudgeries of the above resolution, would now be considered too formidable an affair for any committee to undertake.
