Book Synopsis Robust Control Design for Active Driver Assistance Systems by : Péter Gáspár
Download or read book Robust Control Design for Active Driver Assistance Systems written by Péter Gáspár and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph focuses on control methods that influence vehicle dynamics to assist the driver in enhancing passenger comfort, road holding, efficiency and safety of transport, etc., while maintaining the driver’s ability to override that assistance. On individual-vehicle-component level the control problem is formulated and solved by a unified modelling and design method provided by the linear parameter varying (LPV) framework. The global behaviour desired is achieved by a judicious interplay between the individual components, guaranteed by an integrated control mechanism. The integrated control problem is also formalized and solved in the LPV framework. Most important among the ideas expounded in the book are: application of the LPV paradigm in the modelling and control design methodology; application of the robust LPV design as a unified framework for setting control tasks related to active driver assistance; formulation and solution proposals for the integrated vehicle control problem; proposal for a reconfigurable and fault-tolerant control architecture; formulation and solution proposals for the plug-and-play concept; detailed case studies. Robust Control Design for Active Vehicle Assistance Systems will be of interest to academic researchers and graduate students interested in automotive control and to control and mechanical engineers working in the automotive industry. Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage the transfer of technology in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of new work in all aspects of industrial control.

Download or read book Semi-Active Suspension Control Design for Vehicles written by Sergio M. Savaresi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-08-13 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semi-Active Suspension Control Design for Vehicles presents a comprehensive discussion of designing control algorithms for semi-active suspensions. It also covers performance analysis and control design. The book evaluates approaches to different control theories, and it includes methods needed for analyzing and evaluating suspension performances, while identifying optimal performance bounds. The structure of the book follows a classical path of control-system design; it discusses the actuator or the variable-damping shock absorber, models and technologies. It also models and discusses the vehicle that is equipped with semi-active dampers, and the control algorithms. The text can be viewed at three different levels: tutorial for novices and students; application-oriented for engineers and practitioners; and methodology-oriented for researchers. The book is divided into two parts. The first part includes chapters 2 to 6, in which fundamentals of modeling and semi-active control design are discussed. The second part includes chapters 6 to 8, which cover research-oriented solutions and case studies. The text is a comprehensive reference book for research engineers working on ground vehicle systems; automotive and design engineers working on suspension systems; control engineers; and graduate students in control theory and ground vehicle systems. Appropriate as a tutorial for students in automotive systems, an application-oriented reference for engineers, and a control design-oriented text for researchers that introduces semi-active suspension theory and practice Includes explanations of two innovative semi-active suspension strategies to enhance either comfort or road-holding performance, with complete analyses of both Also features a case study showing complete implementation of all the presented strategies and summary descriptions of classical control algorithms for controlled dampers

Book Synopsis Dynamic Stability and Control of Tripped and Untripped Vehicle Rollover by : Zhilin Jin
Download or read book Dynamic Stability and Control of Tripped and Untripped Vehicle Rollover written by Zhilin Jin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vehicle rollover accidents have been a serious safety problem for the last three decades. Although rollovers are a small percentage of all traffic accidents, they do account for a large proportion of severe and fatal injuries. Specifically, some large passenger vehicles, such as large vans, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles, are more prone to rollover accidents with a high center of gravity (CG) and narrow track width. Vehicle rollover accidents may be grouped into two categories: tripped and untripped rollovers. A tripped rollover commonly occurs when a vehicle skids and digs its tires into soft soil or hits a tripping mechanism such as a curb with a sufficiently large lateral velocity. On the other hand, the untripped rollover is induced by extreme maneuvers during critical driving situations, such as excessive speed during cornering, obstacle avoidance, and severe lane change maneuver. In these situations, the forces at the tire-road contact point are large enough to cause the vehicle to roll over. Furthermore, vehicle rollover may occur due to external disturbances such as side-wind and steering excitation. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the dynamic stability and control of tripped and untripped vehicle rollover so as to avoid vehicle rollover accidents. In this book, different dynamic models are used to describe the vehicle rollover under both untripped and special tripped situations. From the vehicle dynamics theory, rollover indices are deduced, and the dynamic stabilities of vehicle rollover are analyzed. In addition, some active control strategies are discussed to improve the anti-rollover performance of the vehicle.

Book Synopsis Narrow Tilting Vehicles by : Chen Tang
Download or read book Narrow Tilting Vehicles written by Chen Tang and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2019-07-08 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To resolve the urban transportation challenges like congestion, parking, fuel consumption, and pollution, narrow urban vehicles which are small in footprint and light in their gross weight are proposed. Apart from the narrow cabin design, these vehicles are featured by their active tilting system, which automatically tilts the cabin like a motorcycle during the cornering for comfort and safety improvements. Such vehicles have been manufactured and utilized in city commuter programs. However, there is no book that systematically discusses the mechanism, dynamics, and control of narrow tilting vehicles (NTVs). In this book, motivations for building NTVs and various tilting mechanisms designs are reviewed, followed by the study of their dynamics. Finally, control algorithms designed to fully utilize the potential of tilting mechanisms in narrow vehicles are discussed. Special attention is paid to an efficient use of the control energy for rollover mitigation, which greatly enhance the stability of NTVs with optimized operational costs.

Book Synopsis Robust Control and Linear Parameter Varying Approaches by : Olivier Sename
Download or read book Robust Control and Linear Parameter Varying Approaches written by Olivier Sename and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vehicles are complex systems (non-linear, multi-variable) where the abundance of embedded controllers should ensure better security. This book aims at emphasizing the interest and potential of Linear Parameter Varying methods within the framework of vehicle dynamics, e.g. proposed control-oriented model, complex enough to handle some system non linearities but still simple for control or observer design, take into account the adaptability of the vehicle's response to driving situations, to the driver request and/or to the road sollicitations, manage interactions between various actuators to optimize the dynamic behavior of vehicles. This book results from the 32th International Summer School in Automatic that held in Grenoble, France, in September 2011, where recent methods (based on robust control and LPV technics), then applied to the control of vehicle dynamics, have been presented. After some theoretical background and a view on some recent works on LPV approaches (for modelling, analysis, control, observation and diagnosis), the main emphasis is put on road vehicles but some illustrations are concerned with railway, aerospace and underwater vehicles. The main objective of the book is to demonstrate the value of this approach for controlling the dynamic behavior of vehicles. It presents, in a rm way, background and new results on LPV methods and their application to vehicle dynamics.
