Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Actions and Invariants of Algebraic Groups, Second Edition presents a self-contained introduction to geometric invariant theory starting from the basic theory of affine algebraic groups and proceeding towards more sophisticated dimensions." Building on the first edition, this book provides an introduction to the theory by equipping the reader with the tools needed to read advanced research in the field. Beginning with commutative algebra, algebraic geometry and the theory of Lie algebras, the book develops the necessary background of affine algebraic groups over an algebraically closed field, and then moves toward the algebraic and geometric aspects of modern invariant theory and quotients.
Book Synopsis Lie Groups and Geometric Aspects of Isometric Actions by : Marcos M. Alexandrino
Download or read book Lie Groups and Geometric Aspects of Isometric Actions written by Marcos M. Alexandrino and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-22 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides quick access to the theory of Lie groups and isometric actions on smooth manifolds, using a concise geometric approach. After a gentle introduction to the subject, some of its recent applications to active research areas are explored, keeping a constant connection with the basic material. The topics discussed include polar actions, singular Riemannian foliations, cohomogeneity one actions, and positively curved manifolds with many symmetries. This book stems from the experience gathered by the authors in several lectures along the years and was designed to be as self-contained as possible. It is intended for advanced undergraduates, graduate students and young researchers in geometry and can be used for a one-semester course or independent study.

Book excerpt: Actions and Invariants of Algebraic Groups presents a self-contained introduction to geometric invariant theory that links the basic theory of affine algebraic groups to Mumford's more sophisticated theory. Book Synopsis Finite Group Theory by : I. Martin Isaacs
Download or read book Finite Group Theory written by I. Martin Isaacs and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2023-01-24 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text begins with a review of group actions and Sylow theory. It includes semidirect products, the Schur–Zassenhaus theorem, the theory of commutators, coprime actions on groups, transfer theory, Frobenius groups, primitive and multiply transitive permutation groups, the simplicity of the PSL groups, the generalized Fitting subgroup and also Thompson's J-subgroup and his normal $p$-complement theorem. Topics that seldom (or never) appear in books are also covered. These include subnormality theory, a group-theoretic proof of Burnside's theorem about groups with order divisible by just two primes, the Wielandt automorphism tower theorem, Yoshida's transfer theorem, the “principal ideal theorem” of transfer theory and many smaller results that are not very well known. Proofs often contain original ideas, and they are given in complete detail. In many cases they are simpler than can be found elsewhere. The book is largely based on the author's lectures, and consequently, the style is friendly and somewhat informal. Finally, the book includes a large collection of problems at disparate levels of difficulty. These should enable students to practice group theory and not just read about it. Martin Isaacs is professor of mathematics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Over the years, he has received many teaching awards and is well known for his inspiring teaching and lecturing. He received the University of Wisconsin Distinguished Teaching Award in 1985, the Benjamin Smith Reynolds Teaching Award in 1989, and the Wisconsin Section MAA Teaching Award in 1993, to name only a few. He was also honored by being the selected MAA Pólya Lecturer in 2003–2005.

Download or read book Algebraic Groups: Structure and Actions written by Mahir Bilen Can and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-04-06 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the 2015 Clifford Lectures on Algebraic Groups: Structures and Actions, held from March 2–5, 2015, at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana. This volume consists of six articles on algebraic groups, including an enhanced exposition of the classical results of Chevalley and Rosenlicht on the structure of algebraic groups; an enhanced survey of the recently developed theory of pseudo-reductive groups; and an exposition of the recently developed operational -theory for singular varieties. In addition, there are three research articles containing previously unpublished foundational results on birational automorphism groups of algebraic varieties; solution of Hermite-Joubert problem over -closed fields; and cohomological invariants and applications to classifying spaces. The old and new results presented in these articles will hopefully become cornerstones for the future development of the theory of algebraic groups and applications. Graduate students and researchers working in the fields of algebraic geometry, number theory, and representation theory will benefit from this unique and broad compilation of fundamental results on algebraic group theory.

This book was released on 1989 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This book was released on 2019-06-10 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The automorphisms of a two-generator free group F acting on the space of orientation-preserving isometric actions of F on hyperbolic 3-space defines a dynamical system. Those actions which preserve a hyperbolic plane but not an orientation on that plane is an invariant subsystem, which reduces to an action of a group on by polynomial automorphisms preserving the cubic polynomial and an area form on the level surfaces .
Book Synopsis Quilts: Central Extensions, Braid Actions, and Finite Groups by : Tim Hsu
Download or read book Quilts: Central Extensions, Braid Actions, and Finite Groups written by Tim Hsu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-05-06 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quilts are 2-complexes used to analyze actions and subgroups of the 3-string braid group and similar groups. This monograph establishes the fundamentals of quilts and discusses connections with central extensions, braid actions, and finite groups. Most results have not previously appeared in a widely available form, and many results appear in print for the first time. This monograph is accessible to graduate students, as a substantial amount of background material is included. The methods and results may be relevant to researchers interested in infinite groups, moonshine, central extensions, triangle groups, dessins d'enfants, and monodromy actions of braid groups.

This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let B be a Lie group admitting a left-invariant negatively curved Kählerian structure. Consider a strongly continuous action of B on a Fréchet algebra . Denote by the associated Fréchet algebra of smooth vectors for this action. In the Abelian case BR and isometric, Marc Rieffel proved that Weyl's operator symbol composition formula (the so called Moyal product) yields a deformation through Fréchet algebra structures R on . When is a -algebra, every deformed Fréchet algebra admits a compatible pre- -structure, hence yielding a deformation theory at the level of -algebras too. In this memoir, the authors prove both analogous statements for general negatively curved Kählerian groups. The construction relies on the one hand on combining a non-Abelian version of oscillatory integral on tempered Lie groups with geom, etrical objects coming from invariant WKB-quantization of solvable symplectic symmetric spaces, and, on the second hand, in establishing a non-Abelian version of the Calderón-Vaillancourt Theorem. In particular, the authors give an oscillating kernel formula for WKB-star products on symplectic symmetric spaces that fiber over an exponential Lie group.
