De manière générale, la démarche de ce travail est de vous parler dans un premier temps de l'intérêt qu'a constitué la construction d'un projet. Ensuite il y a le thème abordé dans ce projet. Il est d'actualité et mérite qu'on s'y attarde. Il s'agit de la parentalité dans notre société d'aujourd'hui. Développer un projet n'est pas simple. J'ai souhaité m'arrêter sur la signification de la construction d'un projet. Je me suis basée sur un modèle théorique de 6 phases découvert lors d'un cours durant la formation à l'IUKB. Ensuite je développe le thème de la parentalité. Ne dit-on pas que "le métier le plus difficile est celui de parent"! Il est le seul pour lequel il n'y a pas de formation. L'objectif au travers de ce projet est de permettre aux parents des enfants placés à la Fondation d'augmenter leurs compétences parentales. L'envie est de leur proposer un soutien dans le quotidien qu'ils partagent avec leur enfant. Je le présente sous deux formes différentes : par les propositions d'un accompagnement à domicile et/ou de formation individuelle ou en groupe. La construction de ce travail s'est élaborée autour du développement et de l'application de ce projet appelé "Unité Famille". Il vous raconte l'histoire de la genèse, pour aboutir à la présentation du concept socio-éducatif d'accompagnement à la fonction parentale de l'"Unité Famille". Différentes étapes sont présentées en passant par les premières expériences vécues sur le terrain interrompues pour des raisons financières. Puis il y a eu une réflexion importante du directeur du secteur petite enfance de la Fondation quant aux possibles dans les relations institution-parents. Finalement des moyens ont été trouvés pour réaliser ce projet sur le long terme. Au travers de ce travail diplôme, je vous emmène sur le chemin difficile et très intéressant des différentes étapes qui a constitué l'élaboration de ce projet, teintées de questions, de doutes, de réflexions, de surprises et d'enrichissement. Ce parcours n'a pas fait l'économie d'un certain nombre de remises en question, d'ajustements, d'évolutions et d'adaptation, qui ont été nécessaires. Le projet de départ et sa forme finale n'ont pas la même couleur. Dans l'élaboration de recherches autour du thème de la parentalité, Guy Ausloos a été une source importante d'information, tant dans la description de la compétence parentale, que dans cette nouvelle approche de travail en co-construction avec le parent. Cet exposé se termine par une analyse et des commentaires sur ce parcours d'une année et demie de travail. Cet ouvrage restera le film, la mémoire de la mise sur pied de l'"Unité Famille" au sein de la Fondation "l'enfant c'est la vie".

Motivated by an impulse that, as he himself says, ‘was civic rather than political’, nothing seemed more important to him than to understand the Algerian situation and provide the elements that would enable others to come to an informed judgement about it. In extremely tough conditions and along with a small group of students, Bourdieu undertook a series of studies across an Algeria that was tightly patrolled by the army, leading him to discover the shocking reality of the resettlement camps and to analyse the mechanisms of destruction of Algerian society of which they were emblematic. Book excerpt: Much orthodox economic theory is based on assumptions which are treated as self-evident: supply and demand are regarded as independent entities, the individual is assumed to be a rational agent who knows his interests and how to make decisions corresponding to them, and so on. But one has only to examine an economic transaction closely, as Pierre Bourdieu does here for the buying and selling of houses, to see that these abstract assumptions cannot explain what happens in reality. As Bourdieu shows, the market is constructed by the state, which can decide, for example, whether to promote private housing or collective provision. And the individuals involved in the transaction are immersed in symbolic constructions which constitute, in a strong sense, the value of houses, neighbourhoods and towns. The abstract and illusory nature of the assumptions of orthodox economic theory has been criticised by some economists, but Bourdieu argues that we must go further. Supply, demand, the market and even the buyer and seller are products of a process of social construction, and so-called ‘economic' processes can be adequately described only by calling on sociological methods. Instead of seeing the two disciplines in antagonistic terms, it is time to recognize that sociology and economics are in fact part of a single discipline, the object of which is the analysis of social facts, of which economic transactions are in the end merely one aspect. This brilliant study by the most original sociologist of post-war France will be essential reading for students and scholars of sociology, economics, anthropology and related disciplines.

Success in Early Intervention focuses on the Child-Parent Center (CPC) program in Chicago, the second oldest (after Head Start) federally funded early childhood intervention program. Begun in 1967, the program currently operates out of twenty-four centers, which are located in proximity to the elementary schools they serve. The CPC program's unique features include mandatory parental involvement and a single, sustained educational system that spans preschool through the third grade. Central to this study is a 1986 cohort of nearly twelve hundred CPC children and a comparison group of low income children whose subsequent activities, challenges, and achievements are followed through the age of fifteen. Positive behavior support (PBS) is defined as an approach for dealing with problem behavior that focuses on the remediation of deficient contexts (such as environmental conditions and/or behavioral repertoires) that by functional assessment are documented to be the source of the problem. The research published on PBS between 1985 and 1996 (n=107 articles) was reviewed with respect to four categories of variables: demographics, assessment practices, intervention strategies, and outcomes. Results indicated that: (1) PBS is widely applicable to people with serious problem behavior; (2) the field is growing rapidly overall, but especially in the use of assessment and in interventions that focus on correcting environmental deficiencies; (3) using stringent criteria of success, PBS is effective in reducing problem behavior in one-half to two-thirds of cases; (4) success rates nearly double when intervention is based on a prior functional assessment; and (5) consumer needs that emphasize comprehensive lifestyle support, long-term change, practicality and relevance, and direct support for consumers themselves are inadequately addressed by the research base.
