Download or read book Nippon Kaigi written by Thierry Guthmann and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-03-19 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines political nationalism in Japan through an in-depth analysis of the organisation, ideology and influence of Nippon Kaigi, the most significant nationalist pressure group in contemporary Japan. Starting with a review of political nationalism in Japan since 1945, the book then analyses the ideological corpus of Nippon Kaigi, highlighting its unity and coherence as a pressure group and assessing the real influence it exerts on Japanese political life. It goes on to examine the relationship between religion and nationalism and the key role played by various religious organisations within this pressure group, explaining why religious movements that should be in competition with each other manage to collaborate within Nippon Kaigi. Finally, the book turns to the characteristics of Japanese nationalist circles and an assessment of the rise of nationalism in contemporary Japan. Featuring extensive firsthand interviews with individuals and organisations close to Japanese nationalist circles, this book will appeal to students and scholars of Japanese politics, nationalism and the sociology of religion.

The book has simple explanations, pictorial representations, minimal math, and conversational language, which will enable all the readers to grasp it, thereby helping them in decision making and performing comprehensive analysis. This book includes the needs of the unconnected and under-connected sections of the society, notably from the rural and remote areas, when the 6G standards are being discussed and developed. This feature will help overcome the challenge of widening the digital divide from every new generation of mobile network standards. Hence, the book covers all technical and non-technical aspects to be of interest to researchers, decision-makers, academia, social workers, and the readers in technology, growth, and empowerment.

Book Synopsis Broadband Internet Deployment in Japan by : H. Esaki
Download or read book Broadband Internet Deployment in Japan written by H. Esaki and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2008-08-15 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the spectacular development of a digital telecommunications infrastructure in one of the world’s most advanced industrial nations is being reviewed. Starting with the university network JUNET in 1984 the work covers the mobile Internet, wired access and backbone systems, all the way through broadband applications and today’s residential broadband traffic. Japan has established one of the richest Internet environments and undertakes an aggressive R&D activity on both the New Generation Network “NGN” and the new Internet Protocol “IPv6”.In 2007, it was reported that in the cellular phone system in Japan, the total volume of data traffic became larger than that of voice traffic. The telecommunication infrastructure is converging with the broadcasting infrastructure: 2011 is designated as the first year of the full digital age. Towards 2011, the following technical challenges are foreseen: the development and deployment of an end-to-end architecture on the existing complex IPv4 based Internet; development of a Japanese infrastructure, which is globally competitive and globally interoperable; development of new applications and new business models in the ubiquitous networking environment; development of Internet systems as a social infrastructure; integration with the real-space (i.e. integration of physical space and cyber space); NGN (Next Generation Network) and FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence); and development and deployment of the unwired Internet environment. This work looks into the challenges and opportunities now faced: it is a must reading for communications and media experts, policy makers and the general public interested in the digital infrastructure.
Book Synopsis Race for the Exits by : Leonard J. Schoppa
Download or read book Race for the Exits written by Leonard J. Schoppa and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2011-07-15 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contrary to all expectations, Japan's long-term recession has provoked no sustained political movement to replace the nation's malfunctioning economic structure. The country's basic social contract has so far proved resistant to reform, even in the face of persistently adverse conditions. In Race for the Exits, Leonard J. Schoppa explains why it has endured and how long it can last. The postwar Japanese system of "convoy capitalism" traded lifetime employment for male workers against government support for industry and the private (female) provision of care for children and the elderly. Two social groups bore a particularly heavy burden in providing for the social protection of the weak and dependent: large firms, which committed to keeping their core workforce on the payroll even in slow times, and women, who stayed home to care for their homes and families. Using the exit-voice framework made famous by Albert Hirschman, Schoppa argues that both groups have chosen "exit" rather than "voice," depriving the political process of the energy needed to propel necessary reforms in the system. Instead of fighting for reform, firms slowly shift jobs overseas, and many women abandon hopes of accommodating both family and career. Over time, however, these trends have placed growing economic and demographic pressures on the social contract. As industries reduce their domestic operations, the Japanese economy is further diminished. Japan has also experienced a "baby bust" as women opt out of motherhood. Schoppa suggests that a radical break with the Japanese social contract of the past is becoming inevitable as the system slowly and quietly unravels.
