Book excerpt: Experience the generosity of God in this very moment Learn how to live in the now, to trust, and to experience God's presence in your life. "I have seen the love and compassion of Sr. Bridget firsthand, in a ministry we have shared for years. She is a woman that not only talks about generous faith, but lives it daily. Enjoy this book - it will open your eyes to see God everywhere and in everything." - Rev. Gloria White-Hammon, MD, Co-Pastor, Bethel AME Church, Boston; and Executive Director, My Sister's Keeper "In addition to sh aring powerful stories of seemingly ordinary experiences, Sister wisely directs us to take the time to ponder, reflect, and be attentive to the ways the Lord is working on our lives. We all need to make time and space for God if we want to understand our calling and our mission. With the help of the very accessible guided meditations Sister has provided, we can all grow in faith and confidence that we can witness Christ's love to the people in our lives." - Cardinal Sean O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston This simple and joy-filled book opens our hearts to what is in the air we breathe, under our feet, and in this very moment: the abundant life, a gift from God. As Sr. Bridget says with her infectious enthusiasm, all we need to do is cultivate this awareness through three basic practices: * Living in the moment * Trusting in Divine care, and * Experiencing God's presence. This is not a how-to book of methods and techniques. Rather, it is a collection of stories that give shape and face to these three practices. The people in these stories ask us to re-examine our own journey and change our perspective. In so doing, we take a second look at our life, and realize that what we have is more than enough for it is, quite simply, most abundant.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many congregations, schools, and organizations are reaching out into their neighborhoods to share God’s story of abundance by establishing community gardens, beehive colonies, and other agricultural initiatives. They are creatively using their land and property; providing training, inspiration, and cross-cultural experiences for all ages; while at the same time feeding the hungry and building community relationships. Too often food banks only take non-perishables loaded with preservatives and sodium. Church entities involved in agricultural ministries are able to provide healthy food from their gardens to feeding programs, food pantries, and others in need. This book tells the tale of 25 such communities in story and image. An inspiration for others to develop such projects, food and faith can go hand-in-hand as we get our hands dirty while learning more about what Genesis 2 describes as God “planted” a garden. Gardening can be seen on the rooftop of a church in the city, beehives in the midst of a seminary, or a local community garden alongside the church’s parking lot. Discover where this movement is alive and growing, and find ideas for starting your own “food and faith” initiative in your own backyard, roof, or front porch.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WORLD Magazine’s Best Books of 2016 Short List Christianity Today's 2017 Book of the Year Award of Merit - Apologetics/Evangelism Since we can't know with absolute certainty that God exists, each of us in a sense makes a bet. If we believe in God and are right, the benefits include eternal life. If we are wrong, the downside is limited. On the other hand, we might not believe in God. If we are right, then we will have lived in line with reality. If we are wrong, however, the consequences could be eternally disastrous. This was the challenge posed by the French philosopher Blaise Pascal over three hundred years ago. But Michael Rota contends that Pascal's argument is still compelling today. Since there is much to gain (for ourselves as well as for others) and relatively little to lose, the wise decision is to seek a relationship with God and live a Christian life. Rota considers Pascal's wager and the roles of uncertainty, evidence and faith in making a commitment to God. By engaging with themes such as decision theory, the fine-tuning of the universe, divine hiddenness, the problem of evil, the historicity of the resurrection and the nature of miracles, he probes the many dynamics at work in embracing the Christian faith. In addition, Rota takes a turn not found in many books of philosophy. He looks at the actual effects of such a commitment in three recent, vivid, gripping examples—Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Jean Vanier and Immaculée Ilibagiza. Like Pascal, Rota leaves us with a question: What wager will we make?

Book excerpt: Many struggle through life in an uphill battle while faced with endless resistance from surviving to achieving. Some fight to find a state of happiness while being able to attain their dreams, while some throw in the towel and give up on existence completely. You don’t have to go through life alone, as there is help beyond the reaches of the physical world. Increasing Prayer with Faith for an Abundant Life is a non-denominational book open to all people from different walks of life needing a strengthening of their faith with a focus on the power of prayer. You don’t need to be religious to pray, since prayer is open to anyone willing to spend private time with God. You can use prayer to boost your faith, reduce fear, and give you clearer Divine reception. Prayers are similar to affirmations in that it is the intention behind the words that carry weight. Most people are not paying attention to the guidance and messages coming through from Heaven, nor do they understand how to recognize it, yet each and every soul has the strong capacity for receiving astonishing Divine communication hits. As a strong advocate for prayer, spiritual metaphysical author Kevin Hunter discusses the varying ways that prayer works and how you can create a stable partnership with God and your Spirit team to achieve on all levels from the spiritual to the practical. This doesn’t mean you’ll be pain and stress free, but it will help make life much easier and smoother when you have that robust Divine partnership. Some of the topics discussed in Increasing Prayer with Faith for an Abundant Life include: The Power of Prayer, Being Vigilant with Prayer and Affirmations, Asking for Divinely Guided Angelic Help, Turning Prayers Into Manifestation, Creating an Abundant Life with Faith, Increasing Faith to Accomplish, Achieve, and Persevere, Complaining Into Abundance, Taking Action on Divine Guidance, Having Gratitude and Optimism, The Significance of Spirituality, Spirit Is In Your Corner, The Commanding Function of Prayer, Divine Assistance, Spiritual Text Reminders on Faith and Prayer, and much more! Book excerpt: What do you do when you wake up and feel like you're not enough for your life? Or when you look out the kitchen window as dusk falls and wonder how do you live when life keeps breaking your heart? As Ann Voskamp writes, “great grief isn't meant to fit inside your body. It's why your heart breaks.” And each of us holds enough brokenness to overflow—to be given as the greatest story of our lives. In sixty vulnerably soulful stories, The Way of Abundance moves from self-weary brokenness to Christ-focused givenness. Drawing from the critically acclaimed, New York Times bestseller The Broken Way and Ann's online essays, this devotional dares us to embrace brokenness as a gift that moves us to givenness as a way to draw closer to the heart of God. Christ Himself broke like bread, giving Himself to us so we might have a lifelong communion with Him. Could it be that our brokenness is also a gift to the world? This gentle but exquisitely profound book does nothing less than take you on an intimate journey of the soul. As Ann writes, "The wound in His side proves that Jesus is always on the side of the suffering, the wounded, the busted, the broken." Discover how surrendering in unexpected ways is the first step toward receiving what you long for. Discover the good news that your beauty is not in your strength but in your fragility. Discover why your healing shines radiant through your wounds—and how only in brokenness will you ever be whole—and find the way to the abundance you were meant for.

Righteous acts and hard work may be the very things that lock the door to God's salvation, writes D. L. Moody. The faith versus works debate has gone on for two thousand years. Today the confusion continues. How many people, perhaps even you, believe that if they try hard enough, they may be able to escape judgment and receive God's gift of salvation? In God's Abundant Grace, D. L. Moody's words reach forward in time to strip away the layers we've added to God's salvation and lay bare the simple instruction: "To him that worketh not, but believeth to Him,... his faith is counted for righteousness."

Cynthia Small and Jessica Small have joined hands to share personal testimonies and real-life stories to remind men, women, boys, and girls that Jesus is the light of the world today and forevermore. The main focus of this book is to encourage God's people to stand as beacons of light and shine for Him in homes, schools, and communities so that lost souls may see Jesus through their lives. As individuals project God's everlasting and powerful light, Cynthia and Jessica believe that God's glory will be revealed in such a way that those who are sick, discouraged, and in despair will capture a glimpse of hope for a brighter day. The important message shared throughout this book is a clarion call for each of us to rise and shine for God's purpose. It's time to be about our Father's business as never before. The authors pray that readers will make a commitment to become ambassadors who are on a mission to win souls for Christ. It is their hope that Bible believers will intentionally let their light shine so that the world will discover God's love and power through His abundant light. To God be the glory!

Book excerpt: A Life Endured. Is Not a Life!!! As Christ-Followers we are called to do more than endure life. Created in God's image we are overcomers and more than conquerors with specific tasking from the King of kings. Yet cynicism, negativity, and the frantic pace of life send us the message that we should disengage in order to make it through. Power, riches, and pleasures call out to others and lure them down paths they were never meant to travel. Boredom and broken dreams distract others but from time to time we all see with amazing clarity: The way we are living just isn't the way things were supposed to turn out. There was supposed to be more victory, more joy, more significance; this cannot be all there is to our journey. Our vision is more than simple insight; it is a seed planted in John 10:10 when Jesus said He came to provide more than the wonderful gift of salvation: "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
