Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This short textbook provides a core understanding of the intersection between business and the natural environment. The sector’s rapid expansion means that many university programmes are focusing to a greater extent nowadays on the career opportunities generated by the ecological imperative – a curriculum increasingly referred to as "green business". Climate breakdown is a devastating issue facing contemporary society. With six out of the ten largest multinationals listed in the 2018 Fortune Global 500 being active in the energy sector, it is no surprise that more and more business schools are offering modules addressing the management of natural resources. The business world has made some progress incorporating green principles into their strategies and operations, but progress needs to accelerate in line with global agreements to prevent catastrophic ecological and environmental problems. Absolute Essentials of Green Business stands out because of its singular focus on a subset of this wider curricular area. By covering both the macro (framework) and micro (business strategy) aspects of the topic, the book’s structure is in line with the way modules of this nature are taught in universities today. Students of business and environmental studies will benefit from reading this concise textbook in order to develop their understanding of a fundamental element of the social science curriculum.

Book excerpt: This important book deals with the essential principles of resource and environmental economics, provides applications to contemporary issues in this field, and outlines and assesses policies being used or proposed for managing the use of environmental and natural resources. Covering specific contemporary topics such as agriculture and the environment, water use, greenhouse gas management, biodiversity conservation, tourism and the environment, and environmental economics and health, leading issues in resource and environmental economics are outlined and analyzed in an innovative manner. Institutional economics (both new and traditional) is applied and compared with other approaches such as neoclassical economics, behavioral economics and the Austrian School of Economics. This heterogeneous, multi-perspective approach enables problems to be considered from several different angles, thus enhancing the reader's comprehension of the subject matter. Furthermore, using minimal technical jargon, the book takes into account aspects of modern economic analysis such as the costs of and constraints on decision-making and the transaction costs involved in policy implementation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental issues are of fundamental importance, and a broad approach to understanding the relationship between the human economy and the natural world is essential. In a rapidly changing policy and scientific context, this new edition of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics reflects an updated perspective on modern environmental topics. Now in its fifth edition, this textbook includes enhanced and updated material on energy, climate change, greening the economy, population, agriculture, forests and water—reflecting the greater urgency required to solve the big environmental problems in these areas. It introduces students to both standard environmental economics and the broader perspective of ecological economics, balancing analytical techniques of environmental economics topics with a global perspective on current ecological issues such as population growth, global climate change and "green" national income accounting. Harris and Roach’s premise is that a pluralistic approach is essential to understand the complex nexus between the economy and the environment. This perspective, combined with its emphasis on real-world policies, is particularly appealing to both instructors and students. This is the ideal text for undergraduate classes on environmental, natural resource and ecological economics, and postgraduate courses on environmental and economic policy. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Economics is an introduction to the basic principles of environmental economics as they have been developed in the past and as they continue to evolve. The examples discussed in this text represent only a sample of the full range of issues that actually exists. For this reason, the Eighth Edition sticks to the basic ideas and ways that environmental economists have found to make the basic concepts and models more specific and relevant to concrete environmental issues. The basic structure and sequence of chapters in this edition are unchanged although we have reorganized and updated the last section on global issues. The first section of the book is an introduction, beginning with a chapter on what environmental economics is about, followed by one on the basic relationships between the economy and the environment. The next section is devoted to studying the “tools” of analysis, the principles of demand and cost, and the elements of economic efficiency both in market and nonmarket activities. These chapters are not meant to be completely thorough treatments of these theoretical topics; however, given the objective of the book, the introductory chapters are essential. Even those who have had a course in microeconomic principles might find them valuable for purposes of review. Section 2 also contains a chapter in which these economic principles are applied to a simple model of environmental pollution control. Section 3 is on environmental analysis. Here we look closely at some of the techniques that have been developed by environmental economists to answer some of the fundamental value questions that underlie environmental decision making. We focus especially on the principles of benefit–cost analysis. After this we move to Section 4, on the principles of environmental policy design. It begins with a short chapter dealing with the criteria we might use to evaluate policies, then moves on to chapters on the main approaches to environmental quality management. Sections 5 and 6 contain policy chapters, where we examine current developments in environmental policy with the analytical tools developed earlier. Section 5 is devoted to environmental policy in the United States, covering federal policy on water, air, and toxic materials. It also contains a chapter on environmental issues at the state and local levels, including recycling. Finally, the last section looks at international environmental issues: global climate change, the economics of international environmental agreements, globalization, and economic development and the environment. A collection of relevant web links and additional sources is available on the website. Also available is a tutorial for working with graphs. Book excerpt: This book aids those concerned about environmental issues to firmly grasp relevant analytical methods and to comprehend the thought process behind environmental economics. It does so by drawing from specific environmental issues and at the same time providing commentary that facilitates understanding. This text contains in-depth explanations necessary for a thorough understanding of the fundamental aspects and importance of environmental economics. Environmental Economics seeks to elucidate the mechanisms that give rise to environmental problems by approaching environmental issues from an economic perspective. At the same time, it is a study aiming to indicate specific countermeasures that could resolve present environmental issues. This text has been put together in way that allows readers without specialized economics knowledge to easily understand the situation, issues and challenges of environmental economics.
