Download or read book Speaking of Evil written by Matthew Boedy and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-10-15 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rhetoric and the Responsibility to and for Language: Speaking of Evil relocates the “problem of evil”— the question of why God would allow for the existence of evil—and surveys it as a rhetorical problem. It raises this question: if we speak evil, how shall we speak of evil? When we communicate, we are naming, and evil as the corruption of language plays a central role in that naming. Evil freezes our words, convinces us we have the sole right to their definitions, and generally stifles the dynamic gift of language. By looking at how people in different eras and situations have named evil, this book suggests how we can better take responsibility for our words and why we owe a responsibility to language as our ethical stance toward evil.
Download or read book Abiding in God written by Stephen Kaung and published by Christian Fellowship Publishers. This book was released on 2018-06-28 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abiding in God is the secret of Christian life. It is therefore essential for us to learn how to abide in Him. Both Old and New Testament authors have emphasized the importance of abiding in God; for such is the secret of walking with Him. Indeed, let us notice that Moses, Joshua and Caleb in Old Testament times and the apostle John in New Testament times have laid stress on that fact. How, then, can we abide in God? It is not by our human effort but by the mercy of God. He has made the provision and the possibility of our abiding in Him. First, God gave us His Son, the Lord Jesus, to make it possible to abide in Him. And then He sent His Holy Spirit to abide in us so as to make it possible for us to experience this blessed abiding. Accordingly, we as the recipients of this blessed abiding must continually thank God for the Spirit's blessed abiding in us. It is therefore essential for us to learn the secret of how to abide in God. It requires us to give up our self-life in order that we may experience this abiding life. May all of us be willing to do so.

Download or read book Nostradamus written by Denis Crouzet and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-03-16 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most enigmatic figures in history, Nostradamus - apothecary, astrologer and soothsayer - is a continual source of fascination. Indeed, his predictions are so much the stock-in-trade of the wildest merchants of imminent Doom that one could be forgiven for forgetting that Michel de Nostredame, 1503-1566, was a figure firmly rooted in the society of the French Renaissance. In this bold new account of the life and work of Nostradamus, Denis Crouzet shows that any attempt to interpret his Prophecies at face value is misguided. Nostradamus was not trying to predict the future. He saw himself, rather, as 'prophesying', i.e. bringing the Word of God to humankind. Like Rabelais, for whom laughter was a therapy to help one cope with the misery of the times, Nostradamus thought of himself as a physician of the soul as much as of the body. His unveiling of the menacing and horrendous events which await us in the future was a way of frightening his readers into the realisation that inner hatred was truly the greatest peril of all, to which the sole remedy was to live in the love and peace of Christ. This inspired interpretation penetrates the imaginative world of Nostradamus, a man whose life is as mysterious as his writings. It shows him in a completely new dimension, securing for him a significant place among the major thinkers of the Renaissance.

Book Synopsis Escape From Evil's Darkness by : Robert Spitzer
Download or read book Escape From Evil's Darkness written by Robert Spitzer and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2021-02-19 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this second volume of the Called Out of Darkness trilogy, Father Robert Spitzer, S.J., draws together some of the best advice given by Catholic spiritual masters across the ages and brings it into harmony with modern scientific research, offering practical ways to live out the gospel in our busy days. It is a roadmap to a deeper relationship with the Lord and to authentic transformation through the imitation of Christ. Giving evidence that Jesus established just one Church, with Peter as its head, Spitzer shows that the Catholic Church—with its rich array of sacraments, teachings, prayer traditions, and lived examples of holiness—continues to be fertile ground for profound Christian conversion. But no true conversion is purely spiritual; it must bear fruit in our daily lives. Father Spitzer guides readers through the workings of moral transformation, with detailed sketches of all the cardinal and theological virtues, especially love. Using insights from Saint Ignatius of Loyola, as well as from modern psychology, Escape from Evil's Darkness concludes with an in-depth study of the sacrament of confession and the staggering power of God's loving mercy.
