Book excerpt: La communication auprès du patient lors d'un traitement d’Orthopédie-Dento-Faciale est essentielle à la réussite de celui-ci. Cette faculté de communiquer n'est pas totalement innée et doit être apprise. En effet, il n'existe pas uniquement une communication verbale mais également d'autres formes, para et non verbales. Leur bon emploi est nécessaire. C'est pourquoi les préceptes fondamentaux de la communication seront décrits dans un premier temps. Puis, ces règles seront ensuite appliquées au cabinet d'orthodontie où l'on rencontre différents acteurs de la relation thérapeutique : le patient, les parents et le praticien, ainsi que l'ensemble de l’équipe de soins. D'autre part, les abandons et les démotivations sont très fréquentes lors d'un traitement d’orthopédie dento-faciale, en particulier du fait de sa durée. Le praticien doit savoir comment remotiver ses patients et ce qu’il ne faut pas omettre de leur dire avant même le commencement de la thérapeutique. C'est, de ce fait, l'objet de la deuxième partie de cette thèse. Enfin, nous nous appuierons sur les résultats d'une enquête réalisée au Centre de Soins Dentaires de Nantes, au niveau du service d'orthodontie, afin d'évaluer si la communication auprès des patients et de leurs accompagnants y est efficace. D'éventuelles améliorations seront également proposées.
