Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formula One, "F1" racing is one of the most exciting, and expensive, sports in the world. Governed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the stakes are high for drivers, constructors and sponsors alike and the economic effect of the sport across the globe is significant. Divided into two World Championships (for drivers and constructors), Grands Prix are usually held on purpose-built circuits, however, some races are run over closed public roads. The Grand Prix de Pau in 1901 was the first race to be given a name that is synonymous with motoring racing the world over today. On June 26, 1906, an event near Le Mans in France with a starting field of 32 cars, raced a 65 mile (105 km) triangular course over two days. From this point on, the Grand Prix in Le Mans signaled the start of an era, and the sport celebrated its centenary in 2006. This A-Z gives an insight into the drivers, constructors, the dangers and the excitement of one of the world's most renowned sports.

Book Synopsis A-Z of Italian Motorcycle Manufacturers by : Greg Pullen
Download or read book A-Z of Italian Motorcycle Manufacturers written by Greg Pullen and published by The Crowood Press. This book was released on 2018-10-23 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Italian motorcycles have a place in history – and many enthusiasts' hearts – out of all proportion to the numbers that have been built. From Moto Guzzi becoming the first non-British marque to win a TT through to Ducati's achievements in MotoGP, they have also been at the forefront of motorsport despite being far smaller than, at first, the British and later the Japanese manufacturers. If the number of motorcycles built by Italian manufacturers is small, the sheer number of Italian motorcycle factories will surprise readers. Almost 600 marques were identified in researching this book, and there may have been thousands. This is partly because there were so many engines available off the shelf – many of them English – as well as a thriving accessory and component industry. A–Z of Italian Motorcycle Manufacturers only deals briefly with the grand marques Ducati and Moto Guzzi because there have been many dedicated books about them. Instead this is a definitive guide to the factories that have been less widely covered or, in most cases, never before in the English language. Some, such as Bianchi and Garelli, might be familiar: others, remembered for their racing achievements or uniqueness, such as Morbidelli, and many you may have never heard of. But if it was possible to establish when and where the factories were active, and at least a little about the motorcycles they built, then there is an entry for them. An appendix lists the other manufacturers that are lesser known, making this the most complete reference book of Italian motorcycles available today. This book is a complete guide to Italian motorcycle manufacturers, and an essential reference for anyone with an interest in these fascinating vehicles. Book Synopsis Formula 1: Car by Car 1950-59 by : Peter Higham
Download or read book Formula 1: Car by Car 1950-59 written by Peter Higham and published by Formula 1 CBC. This book was released on 2020-07-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The formative years of the 1950s are explored in this fourth installment of Evro's decade-by-decade series covering all Formula 1 cars and teams. When the World Championship was first held in 1950, red Italian cars predominated, from Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Maserati, and continued to do so for much of the period. But by the time the decade closed, green British cars were in their ascendancy, first Vanwall and then rear-engined Cooper playing the starring roles, and BRM and Lotus having walk-on parts. As for drivers, one stood out above the others, Argentine Juan Manuel Fangio, becoming World Champion five times. Much of the fascination of this era also lies in its numerous privateers and also-rans, all of which receive their due coverage in this complete work. Year-by-year treatment covers each season in fascinating depth, running through the teams -- and their various cars -- in order of importance. Alfa Romeo's supercharged 11⁄2-litre cars dominated the first two years, with titles won by Giuseppe Farina (1950) and Fangio (1951). The new marque of Ferrari steamrollered the opposition in two seasons run to Formula 2 rules (1952-53), Alberto Ascari becoming champion both times, and the same manufacturer took two more crowns with Fangio (1956) and Mike Hawthorn (1958). Maserati's fabulous 250F, the decade's most significant racing car, propelled Fangio to two more of his five championships (1954 and 1957). German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz stepped briefly into Formula 1 (1954-55) and won almost everything with Fangio and up-and-coming Stirling Moss. Green finally beat red when the Vanwalls, driven by Moss and Tony Brooks, won the inaugural constructors' title (1958). Then along came Cooper, rear-engine pioneers, to signpost Formula 1's future when Jack Brabham became World Champion (1959).
