Book Synopsis The Method the Divine Government by : James M'cosh
Download or read book The Method the Divine Government written by James M'cosh and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Method the Divine Government: Physical and Moral We live in an age in which the reflecting portion of mankind are much addicted to the contemplation of the works of nature. It is the object of the author, in this Treatise, to "interrogate nature," with the view of inducing her to utter her voice in answer to some of the most momentous questions which the inquiring spirit of man can put. He thinks it needful to state, thus early, that ho proceeds on the inductive method in his inquiry, and not, on the one hand, after the plan of those British Rationalists, who set out with a preconceived system, which they dignify with the name of Rational, and then accommodate all that they see to it; nor, on the other hand, of those German Intuitionalists, who boast that they can construct the existing universe by a priori speculation. To guard against misapprehension, ho wishes it to be understood, that he treats in this book of the Method of the Divine Government in the world, rather than in the Church; of the ordinary providence of God, rather than his extraordinary dealings towards his redeemed people. The reader of severe taste will be inclined to regard the Introductory Book as too loose and discursive; and all the apology that the author has to offer is, that he was afraid of driving back the general reader, by leading him into the minutiae before he had contemplated nature under its general aspect. The general reader, on the other hand, may be disposed to complain, that the style of discussion followed in some of the Sections and Notes of the Second and Third Books, is of too abstruse a character. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Perkins (1558 ¿ 1602) was a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a famous Cambridge theologian. He was one of the foremost leaders of the Puritan movement in the Church of England before the Westminster Assembly and was a mentor to such astute puritans as Jeremiah Burroughs. He was a celebrated divine who wrote voluminously on a number of important theological and practical topics including a number of works on God¿s grace. The Works of William Perkins have not been published until now in these individual treatises. This treatise is an echo of Scripture teaching how God¿s will and man¿s will work in their respective spheres, and with each other working from his text, Matthew 23:37-38. This work is designed to humble the creature in realizing that God¿s free grace is that which enables man to believe the Gospel. And it also teaches that man¿s free will is actually a slave to his desires. Perkin¿s covers the will of God looking at both God¿s sovereignty and God¿s good pleasure in light of Jerusalem¿s unwillingness to repent. He also covers the will of man in four important areas: in the garden before the fall, after the fall, in light of and after regeneration, and glorified in heaven. This is not a scan or facsimile.

Download or read book Lectures on the Moral Government of God written by Nathaniel Taylor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-10-10 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally compiled in 1859, this book is a collection of Nathaniel Taylor's lectures considering the moral government of God. The moral government of god was the great thought of Dr. Taylor's intellect, and the favourite theme of his instructons in theology; to vindicate the ways of God to man, was the object to which all Dr Taylor's energies were consecrated. This collection presents a complete and connected view of all that he wrote on this fundamental topic in theology, and to the lectures on moral government have been appended other essays and lectures on subjects that are naturally connected with this.
