Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thin films of conducting materials, such as metals, alloys and semiconductors are currently in use in many areas of science and technology, particularly in modern integrated circuit microelectronics that require high quality thin films for the manufacture of connection layers, resistors and ohmic contacts. These conducting films are also important for fundamental investigations in physics, radio-physics and physical chemistry. Physical Properties of Thin Metal Films provides a clear presentation of the complex physical properties particular to thin conducting films and includes the necessary theory, confirming experiments and applications. The volume will be an invaluable reference for graduates, engineers and scientists working in the electronics industry and fields of pure and applied science.

Book Synopsis '1/F' Noise in Thin Metal Films Interacting with Silicon Substrates by : R. W. Bene
Download or read book '1/F' Noise in Thin Metal Films Interacting with Silicon Substrates written by R. W. Bene and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an effort to learn more about the microscopic variations in interfacial structures which lead to the previously observed systematics in first compound nucleation in metal-semiconductor systems, we have made measurements of 1/f noise in systems composed of thin metal films deposited onto semiconductor substrates as a function of film thickness or surface resistance. Near-noble metal films deposited onto silicon typically display semiconductor-metal transitions at room temperature as a function of film resistance or metal thickness. measurements of 1/f noise on thin metal films deposited onto silicon can thus be correlated with those observed electronic and structural transitions. Measurements of cobalt thin films r.f. sputtered onto silicon substrates at room temperature show a gradual increase in the magnitude of noise over five orders as the metal thickness is increased to near that of the critical value of crystallization at room temperature. This is followed by a sudden drop in magnitude over six orders after the semiconductor-metal transition has taken place and partial crystallization has occurred. The frequency exponent of the noise varies for these experiments from values near unity at high film resistance to a value approaching 2 near the critical thickness and then abruptly back to near unity when metallization has occurred. The results of nickel films show similar results but with significantly more scatter in the data and no clear trend for the frequency exponents.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The unique materials properties of GaN-based semiconductors havestimulated a great deal of interest in research and developmentregarding nitride materials growth and optoelectronic andnitride-based electronic devices. High electron mobility andsaturation velocity, high sheet carrier concentration atheterojunction interfaces, high breakdown field, and low thermalimpedance of GaN-based films grown over SiC or bulk AlN substratesmake nitride-based electronic devices very promising.

Book Synopsis Noise, Oscillators and Algebraic Randomness by : Michel Planat
Download or read book Noise, Oscillators and Algebraic Randomness written by Michel Planat and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-01-11 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noise is ubiquitous in nature and in man-made systems. Noise in oscillators perturbs high-technology devices such as time standards or digital communication systems. The understanding of its algebraic structure is thus of vital importance. The book addresses both the measurement methods and the understanding of quantum, 1/f and phase noise in systems such as electronic amplifiers, oscillators and receivers, trapped ions, cosmic ray showers and in commercial applications. A strong link between 1/f noise and number theory is emphasized. The twenty papers in the book are comprehensive versions of talks presented at a school in Chapelle des Bois (Jura, France) held from April 6 to 10, 1999, by engineers, physisicts and mathematicians.
