Book Synopsis Handbook of Frequency Allocations and Spectrum Protection for Scientific Uses by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Handbook of Frequency Allocations and Spectrum Protection for Scientific Uses written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2015-11-02 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electromagnetic spectrum is a vital part of our environment. Measures of radio frequency emissions from natural phenomena enable both practical applications, such as weather predictions and studies of the changing of Earth's climate here at home, and reveal the physical properties of cosmic sources. The spectrum is therefore a resource to be used wisely now and to be protected for future generations. Handbook of Frequency Allocations and Spectrum Protection for Scientific Uses: Second Edition sets forth the principles for the allocation and protection of spectral bands for services using the radio spectrum for scientific research. This report describes the radio frequency bands used by scientific services and includes relevant regulatory information and discussion of scientific use of frequency bands. This reference will guide spectrum managers and spectrum regulatory bodies on science issues and serve as a resource to scientists and other spectrum users.

Download or read book Federal Long-Range Spectrum Plan written by Mathew B. Lane and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2002 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is vitally dependent upon the use of the radio spectrum to carry out national policies and achieve national goals. Use of the spectrum is vital to the security and welfare of the Nation and to the conduct of its foreign affairs. This use exerts a powerful influence upon our everyday lives, in countless ways, annually contributing significantly to the Nation's growth and economy. The radio spectrum is a limited natural resource which is accessible to all nations. It is imperative that we develop and administer our use of this resource wisely so as to maintain a free democratic society and to stimulate the healthy growth of the Nation, while ensuring its availability to serve future requirements in the best interest of the Nation. Therefore, consistent with our international treaty obligations and with due regard for the rights of other nations, the national objectives for the use of the radio spectrum are to make effective, efficient, and prudent use of the spectrum in the best interest of the Nation, with care to conserve it for uses where other means of communication are not available or feasible. This revised NIA report details the policies and plans geared towards government oversight of the national radio spectrum, an asset we cannot afford to overlook.

Book Synopsis A Strategy for Active Remote Sensing Amid Increased Demand for Radio Spectrum by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book A Strategy for Active Remote Sensing Amid Increased Demand for Radio Spectrum written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2015-09-21 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Active remote sensing is the principal tool used to study and to predict short- and long-term changes in the environment of Earth - the atmosphere, the oceans and the land surfaces - as well as the near space environment of Earth. All of these measurements are essential to understanding terrestrial weather, climate change, space weather hazards, and threats from asteroids. Active remote sensing measurements are of inestimable benefit to society, as we pursue the development of a technological civilization that is economically viable, and seek to maintain the quality of our life. A Strategy for Active Remote Sensing Amid Increased Demand for Spectrum describes the threats, both current and future, to the effective use of the electromagnetic spectrum required for active remote sensing. This report offers specific recommendations for protecting and making effective use of the spectrum required for active remote sensing.

Download or read book Defense Spectrum Management: More Analysis Needed to Support Spectrum Use Decisions for the 1755-1850 MHz Band written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of commercial mobile wireless communications, such as personal communications services and cell phones, has been escalating worldwide over the radio frequency spectrum. This spectrum is a scarce and finite resource, which serves ever increasing and competing public and private uses. The federal government has supported commercial services by making spectrum available as these services developed over the years. Some representatives of the commercial mobile radio service industry claim additional spectrum is needed to support advanced communications systems, called third generation systems. Other members of the industry question the need for, or feasibility of providing, large amounts of additional spectrum to meet industry requirements. These members point to the need for increased efficiency in the use of spectrum through new technologies. Third generation systems are being developed to provide mobile voice, high-speed data, and Internet capabilities and are expected to contribute significantly to the economic well-being of the United States.
