Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study aimed to clarify the effects of the fuel vapor, which had evaporated in advance and formed combustible mixture around the condensed phase, on the ignition of a fuel droplet under the gas dynamic compression. A soap bubble was utilized to make a heterogeneously distributed fuel vapor pocket in oxidizer gas which offered a model of the vapor cloud around the fuel droplet. Induction periods for the onset of strong emission were measured for fuel droplets, and the models and their ignition processes were examined precisely by means of the interferometric measurement of the fuel concentration field.

Book Synopsis Vaporization, Ignition, and Combustion of Two Parallel Fuel Droplet Streams by : R. H. Rangel
Download or read book Vaporization, Ignition, and Combustion of Two Parallel Fuel Droplet Streams written by R. H. Rangel and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of the combined mechanisms of heat transfer, vaporization, ignition, and combustion of two parallel fuel droplet streams injected in a hot, oxidizing gas flow is presented. The analysis gives a qualitative understanding of the various complex phenomena involved in the vaporization and ignition of one stream of droplets followed by the propagation of the flame to a second stream and the establishment of diffusion flames surrounding each droplet stream. The two-dimensional physical model consists of a constant-property oxidizing gas flowing with a uniform velocity between two insulated planes. The temperature of the gas at the inlet of the channel is specified. The fuel droplet streams are represented as two parallel droplet sheets injected at prescribed locations within the gas flow. Liquid temperature, droplet radius, as well as droplet sheet density and velocity are specified at the inlet. Keywords: Spray combustion, Ignition of sprays, Flame propagation in sprays.
Book Synopsis Shock Waves - Proceedings Of The 20th International Symposium (In 2 Volumes) by : Hans G Hornung
Download or read book Shock Waves - Proceedings Of The 20th International Symposium (In 2 Volumes) written by Hans G Hornung and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-01-22 with total page 1740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The symposia take place every two years. They are the forum at which scientists concerned with shock waves present their research. They USE shock waves for chemical kinetics studies, for materials studies, and smashing kidney stones; they STUDY the phenomena associated with flows involving shock waves, such as supersonic flow, explosions, detonations, volcanic eruptions, and, in this symposium, even such with-it topics as impact of Shoemaker-Levy on Jupiter and blast waves in the World Trade Center. They also discover new, bigger and better ways of generating flows at hypervelocity speeds and develop their technological tools further. The international exchange of information is documented in the proceedings volumes, which have become a storehouse of information on the subject, documenting the history of this peculiar branch of science that involves chemists, physicists, engineers, geophysicists, material scientists and biologists.

Book Synopsis Analysis of Thermal Ignition Lag in Fuel Droplet Combustion by : C. K. Law
Download or read book Analysis of Thermal Ignition Lag in Fuel Droplet Combustion written by C. K. Law and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theory of the thermal ignition of a fuel droplet in a hot oxidizing atmosphere is formulated using an existing gas-phase ignition criterion and an analysis for the transient droplet heating process. Limits in the ignitability of a system, either spontaneous or delayed, are identified. A kinetically-controlled ignition regime and a droplet-heating-controlled ignition regime are shown to exist in cold and hot environments respectively, each exhibiting distinctively different ignition characteristics. The ambient pressure is found to have small influence on the ignition lag except for the marginally ignitable cases.
Book Synopsis Dust Explosion Dynamics by : Russell A. Ogle
Download or read book Dust Explosion Dynamics written by Russell A. Ogle and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2016-09-10 with total page 687 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dust Explosion Dynamics focuses on the combustion science that governs the behavior of the three primary hazards of combustible dust: dust explosions, flash fires, and smoldering. It explores the use of fundamental principles to evaluate the magnitude of combustible dust hazards in a variety of settings. Models are developed to describe dust combustion phenomena using the principles of thermodynamics, transport phenomena, and chemical kinetics. Simple, tractable models are described first and compared with experimental data, followed by more sophisticated models to help with future challenges. Dr. Ogle introduces the reader to just enough combustion science so that they may read, interpret, and use the scientific literature published on combustible dusts. This introductory text is intended to be a practical guide to the application of combustible dust models, suitable for both students and experienced engineers. It will help you to describe the dynamics of explosions and fires involving dust and evaluate their consequences which in turn will help you prevent damage to property, injury and loss of life from combustible dust accidents. - Demonstrates how the fundamental principles of combustion science can be applied to understand the ignition, propagation, and extinction of dust explosions - Explores fundamental concepts through model-building and comparisons with empirical data - Provides detailed examples to give a thorough insight into the hazards of combustible dust as well as an introduction to relevant scientific literature
