The hotel industry is one of the fastest growing industries in Myanmar while the country is considered an emerging market in a transitional stage. Therefore, the leadership style of the managers is a very important for the effective operation of the hotels. This research thus investigated the leadership styles of hotel managers in Yangon, Myanmar and how that leadership style is effecting the employees' job satisfaction. Since this research can be considered as one of the pioneer studies in the selected subject, it is exploratory in nature. The main purpose was to provide the overview of the managers' leadership style and the effect it as on the employees' job satisfaction. The reseach also looked into the characteristics of managers such as gender, age and experiences and the potential influence of those characteristics on the managers' choice of leadership style. This research used attributes and aspects of four leadership styles - autocratic, democratic, transactional and transformational as a base to determine the manager leadership styles. The research project used a qualitative approach to explore the managers' leadership style of hotels in Yangon, Myanmar and, its effect on the employees' job statisfaction. In-depth interviews with selected managers and employees were conducted." -- Abstract.

Literature is reviewed in line with the research questions and objectives. A simple random sampling method was used in selecting 40 respondents. Questionnaire (open ended) was used to collect data. Stata 11.0 was used to analyze data. The respondents that took part in the study comprised predominantly males (63%) other than females (37%). most of the participant's form part of the youthful population, 26-35 years implying the number of employees that are likely to leave the organization as a result of retirement is low. Again, a majority of the respondents are permanent workers representing 55% and 45% representing temporal workers. That means 45% are not likely to have fixed duration of work. General arts department has the biggest workforce indicting that most of the employees comes from the arts department. With our study on the three leadership styles namely; transformational. Transactional. Valued-based leadership. It was revealed that the leadership of Notre Dame Girls Senior High uses transactional leadership styles and it has a positive relationship with job satisfaction. It also reviews that employees will be more satisfied in their job if transformational leadership style is use by management.The study concludes that the current leadership practices use in the institution is transactional leadership style but all the three leadership style has a positive relationship with job satisfaction. And the employees of Notre- dame girls senior high school accept the current leadership style being use by the leadership although the impact of transformational leadership will result in massive job satisfaction.

These models reference the concept of authentic leadership, which is chosen as a positive alternative to the described fake leadership.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the possible relationship between transformational leadership style behaviors and the influence it had on employee satisfaction. The information presented in this study involved virtual team members at the Defense Contract Management Agency, Navy Special Emphasis Operations. The aims of the study was to examine the influence of transformational leadership style as measured by Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (Bass & Avolio, 2004) and employee satisfaction, as measured by the Spector's Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) (Spector, 1997). The analyses utilized a Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient (two tailed) and a regression analyses was used to investigate the relationship between the two variables. The statistical analysis was conducted by using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 10.0 and in an Excel spreadsheet to foster congregate validity to the statistical findings. In each condition, the software programs were in agreement. Therefore, the survey data from the JSS revealed that virtual team members within the sample population experienced higher levels of employee satisfaction with virtual team leaders who adapt and use leadership style behaviors that lean more towards transformational leadership style behaviors than transactional leadership style behaviors. The survey data from the MLQ revealed that virtual team leaders within the sample population showed that employee job satisfaction and transformational leadership style as measured by the PPMCC had a statistically significant positive correlation.
