Book excerpt: This state-of-the-art report summarizes the results of an extensive search and review of available literature on the mechanical properties of concrete, with particular reference to high performance concrete for highway applications. Included in the review and discussion are the behavior of plastic concrete as well as the strength and deformation characteristics of hardened concrete. Both short-term and long-term effects are considered. Based on the review of the available information, research needs are identified. It is concluded that much research is needed to develop data on the strength and durability properties of concrete which develops high strength, particularly very early strength.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Engineering - Civil Engineering, grade: 4.0, University of Engineering & Technology Peshawar, course: Project, language: English, abstract: This study introduces the need, difficulties associated with and solutions for implementing the use of High Strength Concrete in Peshawar and challenging areas in general. It does so by using Peshawar as a case study and generalizing its characteristics to any other such regions in the world. It reviews current standard methods for making High Strength Concrete in the world and investigates those used in the target region. Then compares them to find the difficulties that stand as a hindrance in achieving High Strength Concrete in said area, naming them as challenges. It uses the PEC (Pakistan Engineering Council) contractors’ categorization to provide guidelines for each category to tackle the challenge that hinders it the most. Furthermore, it provides a set of actions for PEC to follow for a successful implementation of High Strength Concrete in the area. It also gives a review of the process for use in other challenging environments, also giving examples of such environments in Pakistan and other parts of the world.

Book Synopsis Geoheritage of Volcanic Harrats in Saudi Arabia by : Mohammed Rashad Moufti
Download or read book Geoheritage of Volcanic Harrats in Saudi Arabia written by Mohammed Rashad Moufti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-24 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book records the geoheritage values of globally significant, yet little-known, volcanic geosites in Saudi Arabia. It is the first of its kind to focus on the Middle East, clearly showing the hidden geoheritage value of the volcanic Arabian Peninsula’s harrats and demonstrating why the Saudi Arabian volcanic fields are unique. Along with the systematic geosite description, the book introduces scientifically founded geoeducational programs that can be used to develop our understanding of volcanic geoheritage values of volcanic fields. It offers a detailed and comprehensive research-based description of four of the most accessible volcanic harratts in Saudi Arabia and an additional summary of other more remote fields. Additionally, it discusses geoeducational programs that could be used to link these volcanic areas and use them in volcanic hazard education.

Download or read book Some Characteristics of High-strength Structural Concrete written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 68-storey Scotia Plaza tower in Toronto is an outstanding example of the use of concrete technology to achieve high-performance high-strength concrete. Cementitious hydraulic slag, silica fume, and a superplasticizer were combined with CSA type-10 Portland cement and high-quality aggregates to produce very workable high-strength concrete. During the course of construction, data were published suggesting the possibiity of the strength regression of some silica fume concretes after long exposure to low humidity, the determinations being made on standard test cylinders. Tests were, therefore, made at ages of 1 year and 2 years on specimens drilled from columns in the structure. This technical note gives details of the laboratory examination and testing of these specimens.

Book Synopsis Super-High-Strength High Performance Concrete by : Pu Xincheng
Download or read book Super-High-Strength High Performance Concrete written by Pu Xincheng and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-09-20 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When produced correctly, concrete can be extremely strong, with high load-bearing capacity and superior durability. Another noteworthy property is the relatively low amount of energy and resources consumed during production. Super-High-Strength High Performance Concrete brings together the results of a major research project by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Doctoral Foundation of the Ministry of Education of China. This ten-year project explored the properties, performance, and potential of super-high-strength high performance (SHSHP) concrete. With a view towards improved production that optimizes the strength and durability of concrete, the book presents a host of topics on the cutting edge of concrete research. These include: A new method for the specific strength analysis of the pozzolanic effect of active mineral admixtures Analysis of the strength composition of SHSHP concrete Optimization of raw materials and mix proportion parameters for strength and flowability Analysis of the mechanical properties, deformation, and durability of SHSHP concrete Methods for decreasing autogeneous shrinkage Testing methods for SHSHP concrete The book concludes with a consideration of the practical and economic benefits of these optimized concretes. A systematic study of the different aspects of this essential commodity as well as the future direction of concrete science and technology, this book is a valuable resource for material scientists and engineers engaged in developing better structures.
Book Synopsis High-Strength Concrete by : Michael A. Caldarone
Download or read book High-Strength Concrete written by Michael A. Caldarone and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-04-21 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical book from a highly experienced author presents clearly the means and methods for designing, producing and using high-strength concrete. High-strength concrete offers many benefits. Higher compressive strengths allow for a reduction in the cross-sectional dimensions of columns and walls in buildings. Its greater stiffness allows for increasing building heights while controlling sway and occupant comfort. Civil structures such as bridges have benefited from greater span lengths, shallower beam sections, wider girder spacing, and extended service life. Illustrated with real life examples, through documented case histories, High-Strength Concrete will be a valuable resource for contractors, producers, inspection agencies, as well as engineers and researchers.
