Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine and provide information about the perceptions of articulation held by administrators of Missouri vocational-technical education, area vocational-technical schools and community colleges. A comparison between the two groups' perceptions of articulation was assessed. There were 84 respondents, 53 from the area vocational-technical schools and 31 from the community colleges from an initial 100 potential respondents. The problem faced by our educational institutions at all levels is that of providing a smooth, challenging, and unduplicated avenue of education for students. The concerns of each level have been who has been held accountable for the instruction and learning at each level, who has identified the competencies to be reached at each level, what has been the approved methodology of instruction, and where has the instruction taken place. This study identified the perception of Missouri vocational-technical administrators in regard to articulation practices and implementation, the differences and similarities of administrators from the community colleges and area vocational-technical schools, and suggested practices that serve as inhibitors or enhancers of articulation between programs and institutions. A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) procedure in a two-by-three design was utilized to analyze the data to determine if there was a significant difference between the mean scores of respondents' perceptions of articulation--information, communication, and interaction--grouped by Missouri school affiliations, area vocational-technical schools or community colleges. Using the Pillai's trace criterion test statistic, the null hypothesis was not rejected. Based on the findings of this study, it was concluded that Missouri area vocational-technical school leadership and Missouri community college technical education administrators tend to agree about the implementation of articulation practices in Missouri.
