Three homosexual men and three heterosexual men were :interviewed for this phenomenological, qualitative study. The following eleven themes that emerged from the interviews are discussed: (a) media influence; (b) print media versus television media; (c) jealousy toward male media representations versus comparative views of male media representations; (d) body dissatisfaction versus body satisfaction; (e) muscular versus average to overweight; (f) body image comparison to general public; (g) self-consciousness/body consciousness; (h) desire to change physical appearance through drastic means; (i) concealing your appearance; (j) community ideals; (k) effeminate versus masculine. A comparison is done of the responses elicited from the homosexual and heterosexual men.
