Book Synopsis Jesus > Religion by : Jefferson Bethke
Download or read book Jesus > Religion written by Jefferson Bethke and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2013-10-14 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abandon dead, dry, religious rule-keeping and embrace the promise of being truly known and deeply loved. Jefferson Bethke burst into the cultural conversation with a passionate, provocative poem titled "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus." The 4-minute video became an overnight sensation, with 7 million YouTube views in its first 48 hours (and 23+ million in a year). Bethke's message clearly struck a chord with believers and nonbelievers alike, triggering an avalanche of responses running the gamut from encouraged to enraged. In his New York Times bestseller Jesus > Religion, Bethke unpacks similar contrasts that he drew in the poem--highlighting the difference between teeth gritting and grace, law and love, performance and peace, despair, and hope. With refreshing candor, he delves into the motivation behind his message, beginning with the unvarnished tale of his own plunge from the pinnacle of a works-based, fake-smile existence that sapped his strength and led him down a path of destructive behavior. Along the way, Bethke gives you the tools you need to: Humbly and prayerfully open your mind Understand Jesus for all that he is View the church from a brand-new perspective Bethke is quick to acknowledge that he's not a pastor or theologian, but simply an ordinary, twenty-something who cried out for a life greater than the one for which he had settled. On this journey, Bethke discovered the real Jesus, who beckoned him with love beyond the props of false religion. Praise for Jesus > Religion: "Jeff's book will make you stop and listen to a voice in your heart that may have been drowned out by the noise of religion. Listen to that voice, then follow it--right to the feet of Jesus." --Bob Goff, author of New York Times bestsellers Love Does and Everybody, Always "The book you hold in your hands is Donald Miller's Blue Like Jazz meets C. S. Lewis's Mere Christianity meets Augustine's Confessions. This book is going to awaken an entire generation to Jesus and His grace." --Derwin L. Book Synopsis Disorganized Christianity by : Keith H. McIntosh
Download or read book Disorganized Christianity written by Keith H. McIntosh and published by . This book was released on 2023-05-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some simple and exact beliefs organized religion has about an apple, a whale, three wise men at Jesus's birth, why Noah was the best man God could have chosen to repopulate the earth after the global flood, the treatment of women, slaves/Blacks, and homosexuals along with many other false dogmas will be exposed in this book. Disorganized Christianity will also address some lesser-known events like angels having sex with Eve's daughters, what the origin of the Antichrist's number 666 could be, that Eve NEVER sinned in the Garden of Eden, and the Biblical fact that Jesus CANNOT BE the Messiah. I had a falling out with my local church pastor. One week, I was singing "Amazing Grace," and the next week, I wasn't even allowed in HIS building. I decided very quickly to reread the Bible with a different set of eyes and a different heart and determine for myself if organized religion was correct in its damnation of my soul. Organized religion was not even close to being able to defend its damning position against me. I taught them scriptures and, in the process, recaptured my soul. I created a little study guide for others to fend off the relentless attacks on their souls by mean-spirited and intolerant Christians. The study guide grew into this book, Disorganized Christianity. We converted non-Christians now see the real darkness of organized religion's dogma, and we are no longer bound by its condemnation.
Book Synopsis God Is Not Great by : Christopher Hitchens
Download or read book God Is Not Great written by Christopher Hitchens and published by McClelland & Stewart. This book was released on 2008-11-19 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christopher Hitchens, described in the London Observer as “one of the most prolific, as well as brilliant, journalists of our time” takes on his biggest subject yet–the increasingly dangerous role of religion in the world. In the tradition of Bertrand Russell’s Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris’s recent bestseller, The End Of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos. With eloquent clarity, Hitchens frames the argument for a more secular life based on science and reason, in which hell is replaced by the Hubble Telescope’s awesome view of the universe, and Moses and the burning bush give way to the beauty and symmetry of the double helix.

Book Synopsis The Organization of the Early Christian Churches by : Edwin Hatch
Download or read book The Organization of the Early Christian Churches written by Edwin Hatch and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 1999-05-06 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here Edwin Hatch presents his idea that the historic episcopate was a late development with its origin in pagan society. These lectures provoked a conversation that lasted almost a century regarding the nature of the episcopacy. Hatch argued that Christian congregations were shaped according to patterns already present in voluntary associations of Graeco-Roman society. Within these voluntary associations, administrative officers emerged whose role was primarily financial. Hatch claimed that these episkopoi are of the same type that developed in early Christianity, in time developing into Bishops as we know them.

Book Synopsis Is Organized Religion a Sham by : Ed Sepernik
Download or read book Is Organized Religion a Sham written by Ed Sepernik and published by . This book was released on 2004-06 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IS ORGANIZED RELIGION A SHAM? Delivers a well-researched treatise on the origins of various religions, their effects on mankind, and takes into account aspects of history, theology, and sociology. The text is an accumulation of facts from primitive man's first practice of animism to today's televangelism. Through this historic detail, the book focuses on the religious righteous and their manipulation of theology to control the masses. Clearly not everyone will agree with my provocative conclusions, however, een the most devout practitioner of any religion will find it difficult to argue with the historical accuracy of the research. I begin with how primitive man conceived gods. The early chapters hinge on specific moments in history and bibical accounts, such as Moses' first encounter with Yahweh. Following this is a survey of Jesus, the man, and how Christianity started. In chapter five I focus on the beliefs and obligations of Islam and in subsequent chapters move on to Hinduism and Buddhism. I Cover religious cults and discuss televantelist figures, Jerry Falwell, Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart. In chapter twelve, I lay out crimes committed in the name of God and in chapter fifteen I have juxtaposed both the creationist and evolutionist arguments for existence. Overall my contribution is designed to enlighten and provoke thought, as well as to participate in what may be viewed as an ongoing debate.
