Book Synopsis Muskox Population Studies in Greenland by : Peter Aastrup
Download or read book Muskox Population Studies in Greenland written by Peter Aastrup and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The thesis contains papers and manuscripts on muskoxen in Greenland. Three main topics are explored: population dynamics, methods for muskox census, and comparisons between muskox populations living under different climatic and forage conditions. Time series data for population size and composition from both East and West Greenland (i.e., an indigenous East Greenland (EG) population and an introduced West Greenland (WG) population) are presented and discussed in relation to hunter harvest and seismic operations. In West Greenland population size was stabilized by hunting. Although the proportion of yearlings was significantly smaller during years with seismic operations in East Greenland no direct effects on population size from three years of seismic operations could be found. The line transect method gave lower estimates of population size than the strip transect method, because observations were missed on the transect line. Population growth, body weight and mandible size were significantly larger in the WG population than in the EG population"--Page [1].
