Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the needs of the educational community, and the software professional, this book takes a unique approach to teaching software testing. It introduces testing concepts that are managerial, technical, and process oriented, using the Testing Maturity Model (TMM) as a guiding framework. The TMM levels and goals support a structured presentation of fundamental and advanced test-related concepts to the reader. In this context, the interrelationships between theoretical, technical, and managerial concepts become more apparent. In addition, relationships between the testing process, maturity goals, and such key players as managers, testers and client groups are introduced. Topics and features: - Process/engineering-oriented text - Promotes the growth and value of software testing as a profession - Introduces both technical and managerial aspects of testing in a clear and precise style - Uses the TMM framework to introduce testing concepts in a systemmatic, evolutionary way to faciliate understanding - Describes the role of testing tools and measurements, and how to integrate them into the testing process Graduate students and industry professionals will benefit from the book, which is designed for a graduate course in software testing, software quality assurance, or software validation and verification Moreover, the number of universities with graduate courses that cover this material will grow, given the evoluation in software development as an engineering discipline and the creation of degree programs in software engineering.

Book excerpt: This textbook provides an introduction to software engineering for undergraduate students of computer science. Its emphasis is on a case study approach in which a project is developed through the course of the book illustrating the different activities of software development. The sequence of chapters is essentially the same as the sequence of activities performed during a typical software project. All activities, including quality assurance and control activities, are described in each chapter as integral activities for that phase of the development process. Similarly, the author carefully introduces appropriate metrics for controlling and assessing the software process. This book is intended for students who have had no previous training in software engineering and is suitable for a one semester course. In this new edition two trends are clearly highlighted: software processes and object orientation. From reviews of the first edition "I can recommend this book for classroom adoption or individual study..." Computing Reviews "Overall, the book is very readable and exceptionally well organized ... exposes the reader to many current sophistictaed formal and quantitative methods." American Scientist

Book excerpt: This concise text provides an insight into practical aspects of software testing and discusses all the recent technological developments in this field including quality assurance. The book also illustrates the specific kinds of problems that software developers often encounter during development of software. The book first builds up the basic concepts inherent in the software development life cycle (SDLC). It then elaborately discusses the metho-dologies of both static testing and dynamic testing of the software, covering the concepts of structured group examinations, control flow and data flow, unit testing, integration testing, system testing and acceptance testing. The text also focuses on the importance of the cost–benefit analysis of testing processes. The concepts of test automation, object-oriented applications, client-server and web-based applications have been covered in detail. Finally, the book brings out the underlying concepts of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software applications and describes the testing methodologies adopted in them. The book is intended for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of computer science and engineering for a course in software testing. KEY FEATURES : Provides real-life examples, illustrative diagrams and tables to explain the concepts discussed. Gives a number of assignments drawn from practical experience to help the students in assimilating the concepts in a practical way. Includes model questions in addition to a large number of chapter-end review questions to enable the students to hone their skills and enhance their understanding of the subject matter.

Book excerpt: Diploma Thesis from the year 2007 in the subject Business economics - Information Management, grade: 2, Campus02 University of Applied Sciences Graz, language: English, abstract: The IT-market has been growing dramatically in the last 15 years. Software tries to solve complex problems of the real world. In addition, customers’ expectations concerning the quality of the software are rising steadily. Therefore, testing the software before it is delivered to a customer is a necessity. While testing software completely is impossible, the test department must use techniques in order to test critical parts in the software first. Furthermore, the test department has to provide best possible information about the quality of the software achieved through passing several tests. This requirement can be met only if testing is a structured and monitored process. This thesis presents the implementation of an approach which understandsstructured software testing as an integrated part of the software development life-cycle. The approach is based on several established models from software development, quality assurance, and software testing. These models are discussed together with different commercial, in-house, and Open Source tools used for the implementation of the approach. A framework is described for automated test execution, test results processing, archiving of test data, and web based test data management. An example is given where this framework has been introduced to a software company. Based on a specific quality approach the measurable quality improvement of the test process due to the introduction of the framework is presented.
