No matter the specific pursuit, all dirt riding (and much street riding) shares the same basic skill set. How to Ride Off-Road Motorcycles schools the reader in all the skills necessary to ride safely and quickly off-road. Chapters cover the basics, such as body position, turning, braking, and throttle control, then proceed to advanced techniques, such as sliding, jumps, wheelies, hill-climbing, and more. If you've ever wanted to try dirt riding or if you're an experienced rider looking to sharpen your skill set, How to Ride Off-Road Motorcycles is a perfect riding coach.

Book excerpt: A high-octane memoir of unflappable determination from an X-Games and Paralympics champion When "Monster" Mike Schultz won snowboarding gold in Pyeongchang, South Korea, it was the culmination of a decade of reinvention, in every sense of the word. Ten years earlier he'd lain bleeding on the side of a mountain after a devastating snowmobile accident. Now he stood tall on the Paralympic podium, supported by a prosthetic knee and foot of his own creation. Driven to Ride chronicles Schultz's improbable journey following a lifesaving amputation. From a place of debilitating pain and depression, he tapped into the same sense of adventure that had once taken him to the top of competitive snowmobile racing and followed it to the pinnacle of an entirely new sport: adaptive snowboarding. As he launched himself into the world of adaptive sports, Schultz's ambition was only tempered by his need for better equipment—prostheses that could withstand the vibrations of a motocross bike or the impact of rough terrain. His obsessive tinkering, without any formal engineering background, has presented yet another new path designing innovative prostheses for athletes and wounded military veterans. Inspiring and thrilling in equal measure, this is a singular story of uncommon strength, ingenuity, and seizing golden opportunities.

Book excerpt: It’s that thing when you see yourself riding through town on your street bike with the wind blowing in your hair and your beautiful girlfriend riding behind, wearing only shorts, sandals, and a halter top. Sounds like fun? Sure does! But someday you may want something different. It’s that thing as you are taken back into the 1950s—just as Japan began sending low-cost fun-loving motorcycles to the US. With the 1960s came a new motorcycling challenge—the introduction of Europe’s exhausting sport of motocross. This collection of short stories will take you through years of “The Dirt Bike Evolution” when motorcyclists across America were being introduced to various forms of racing on dirt courses, sandy trails, and mountain paths. You will experience the challenges of traveling to these events. Each decade has brought advances in technology and development of the dirt bike. Today X Games performers are doing double flips in the air on these high-tech machines to the excitement of their stadium-filled audiences. Travel along to the southeast as these fictional sportsmen racers pursue their passion of riding and racing into seven decades. 1

Book excerpt: It was a warm, sunny, Tuesday afternoon. I was waiting at the red light at a busy interchange when another motorcycle pulled up next to me, in the same lane, also now waiting to go home, or to a friends house, or maybe shopping. The very next thing he did was watch me fly like a circus aerial act, bouncing off car roof tops, and sailing all the way across the huge intersection. With no prior intention, I was on my way to meet my maker and face up to the life that I had been living until thenall initiated by a drunk in an old, four-door sedan who had no plans on even slowing down. Resuscitated over and over on the asphalt, I was eventually rushed to the hospital, where my wife was repeatedly told that I would not be alive much longer. Not being a believer of that kind of talk, she took peace in her heart that I would survive to be with her and our two little boys. Now, having been comatose for two weeks, I awoke frightened and was told that I had little hope of much of a recovery. I was then confronted with Jesus himself, right there in that hospital room. What He asked me over and over at that point clarified my beliefs and gave me the confidence to continue on. I call that encounter a pure miracle and thank God that I was The DOA Who Made It!
