Book Synopsis Magnetic Source Imaging of the Human Brain by : Zhong-Lin Lu
Download or read book Magnetic Source Imaging of the Human Brain written by Zhong-Lin Lu and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2003-10-17 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to acquaint serious students, scientists, and clinicians with magnetic source imaging (MSI)--a brain imaging technique of proven importance that promises even more important advances. The technique permits spatial resolution of neural events on a scale measured in millimeters and temporal resolution measured in milliseconds. Although widely mentioned in literature dealing with cognitive neuroscience and functional brain imaging, there is no single book describing both the foundations and actual methods of magnetoencephalopgraphy and its underlying science, neuromagnetism. This volume fills a long-standing need, as it is accessible to scientists and students having no special background in the field, and makes it possible for them to understand this literature and undertake their own research. A self-contained unit, this book covers MSI from beginning to end, including its relationship to allied technologies, such as electroencephalography and modern functional imaging modalities. In addition, the book: *introduces the field to the non-specialist, providing a framework for the rest of the book; *provides a thorough review of the physiological basis of MSI; *describes the mathematical bases of MSI--the forward and inverse problems; *outlines new signal processing methods that extract information from single-trial MEG; *depicts the early, as well as the most recent versions of MSI technology; *compares MSI with other imaging methodologies; *describes new paradigms and analysis techniques in applying MSI to study human perception and cognition, which are also applicable to EEG; and *reviews some of the most important results in MSI from the most prominent researchers and laboratories around the world.

Book Synopsis Engineering Superconductivity by : Peter J. Lee
Download or read book Engineering Superconductivity written by Peter J. Lee and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2001-05-02 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive coverage of superconductivity from the Wiley Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Engineering Superconductivity features fifty articles selected from the Wiley Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the one truly indispensable reference for electrical engineers. Superconductor technology has made highly advanced experiments possible in chemistry, biochemistry, particle physics, and health sciences, and introduced new applications currently in use in fields from medicine to cellular communications. Taken together, these articles-written by acknowledged experts in the field-provide the most complete and in-depth accounting of superconductivity in existence. The book brings together a wealth of information that would not be available to those who do not have access to the full 24-volume encyclopedia. This thorough survey looks at the application of superconductors from an engineer's practical perspective rather than a theoretical approach. Engineering Superconductivity provides full coverage of the fundamentals of superconducting behavior and explains the properties and fabrication methods of commercially produced superconductors. Up-to-date material on superconductor applications as well as competing technologies is included. The fifty articles presented here are divided into three sections: Superconductivity and magnetism Superconductors Applications and related technology Engineering Superconductivity is a complete and up-to-date reference for engineers, physicists, chemists, materials scientists, and anyone working with superconductors.
Book Synopsis Possible Health Effects of Exposure to Residential Electric and Magnetic Fields by : National Research Council
Download or read book Possible Health Effects of Exposure to Residential Electric and Magnetic Fields written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-03-18 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can the electric and magnetic fields (EMF) to which people are routinely exposed cause health effects? This volume assesses the data and draws conclusions about the consequences of human exposure to EMF. The committee examines what is known about three kinds of health effects associated with EMF: cancer, primarily childhood leukemia; reproduction and development; and neurobiological effects. This book provides a detailed discussion of hazard identification, dose-response assessment, exposure assessment, and risk characterization for each. Possible Health Effects of Exposure to Residential Electric and Magnetic Fields also discusses the tools available to measure exposure, common types of exposures, and what is known about the effects of exposure. The committee looks at correlations between EMF exposure and carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, neurobehavioral effects, reproductive and developmental effects, effects on melatonin and other neurochemicals, and effects on bone healing and stimulated cell growth.
