Book excerpt: A simple reliable formalism is presented for obtaining nucleon-nucleon cross sections within a nucleus in nuclear collisions for a given projectile and target nucleus combination at a given energy for use in transport, Monte Carlo, and other calculations. The method relies on extraction of these values from experiments and has been tested and found to give excellent results. Tripathi, R. K. and Cucinotta, Francis A. and Wilson, John W. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, nucleon-nucleon (N-N) cross sections in the medium have been extracted directly from experiment. The in-medium N-N cross sections form the basic ingredients of several heavy-ion scattering approaches including the coupled-channel approach developed at the Langley Research Center. In the present study the ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the two-body scattering amplitude in the medium was investigated. These ratios are used in combination with the in-medium N-N cross sections to calculate total proton-nucleus cross sections. The agreement is excellent with the available experimental data. These cross sections are needed for the radiation risk assessment of space missions.

This book was released on 2018-07-09 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neutron total cross sections are represented for Li to Pu targets at energies above 0.1 MeV and less than 100 MeV using a modified nuclear Ramsauer formalism. The formalism is derived for energies above 100 MeV by fitting theoretical cross sections. Neutron absorption cross sections are represented by analytic expressions of similar form, but shape resonance phenomena of the Ramsauer effect is not present. Elastic differential cross sections are given as a renormalized impulse approximation. These cross section data bases are useful for nucleon transport applications. Wilson, J. W. and Townsend, L. Book Synopsis Nucleus--nucleus Total Cross Sections for Light Nuclei at 1.55 and 2.89 GeV/ C/nucleon by :
Download or read book Nucleus--nucleus Total Cross Sections for Light Nuclei at 1.55 and 2.89 GeV/ C/nucleon written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Total cross sections have been measured for protons, deuterons, alphas, and $sup 12$C on hydrogen, deuterium, helium, and carbon targets at 1.55 and 2.89 GeV/c/nucleon using the ''good geometry'' transmission method. In addition, the inelastic cross sections and elastic slope parameters were measured for reactions initiated by deuterons, alphas, and $sup 12$C. The factorization relation sigma/ sub T/(AA) = sigma/sub T/(AB)$sup 2$/sigma/sub T/(BB) is violated for some of these reactions. The results generally agree with Glauber theory predictions except in their detailed energy behavior. It is found that sigma/sub T/ approximately equal to 144 (A/sub T//sup $sup 1$/$sub 3$/ + A/sub P//sup $sup 1$/ $sub 3$/ - 1.48)$sup 2$ and sigma/sub IN/ approximately equal to 78 (A/sub T//sup $sup 1$/$sub 3$/ + A/sub P//sup $sup 1$/$sub 3$/ - 1.25)$sup 2$, where A/sub T/(A/ sub P/) is the atomic mass number of the target (projectile) and the cross sections are given in mb. (auth).

This book was released on 2018-12-29 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The in-medium nucleon-nucleon amplitudes are extracted from the available proton-nucleus total reaction cross sections data. The retrieval of the information from the experiment makes the estimate of reaction cross sections very reliable. Simple expressions are given for the in-medium nucleon-nucleon amplitudes for any system of colliding nuclei as a function of energy. Excellent agreement with experimental observations is demonstrated in the ion-nucleus interactions. Tripathi, R. K. and Cucinotta, Francis A. and Wilson, John W.
