This book was released on 1990 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation is principally an annotated bibliography of the works for horn, voice and piano from 1830-1850 (Chapter II). The annotations of the songs include bibliographic references and other information about the composer, the song, and the origin of the copy of the song. Each annotation includes a description chart and comments which elaborate upon the song's characteristics and programmability: key, length, duration, voice type, difficulty level for each player and a musical quality rating. The difficulty levels are IV--Easy, V--Medium, and VI--Difficult. The musical quality ratings are I--Poor, II--Below Average, III--Average, IV--Above Average and V--Superior. An incipit of the opening of the song and the first few measures of the entrance of the voice is included. Chapter III includes the analyses of nine selected works from 1830-1986 which demonstrate the level of musical sophistication of songs from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The information is similar to that of Chapter II but goes into much more depth in all areas. Each of the nine entries includes a biography of the composer, bibliographic information, a full translation of each song and performance comments. The introductory and conclusion chapters serve to provide an historical overview of the genre, a discussion of Schubert's "Auf dem Strom" for horn, voice and piano, and a summary of the findings in the annotated bibliography. The reader is provided with lists of songs for the various difficulty and musical quality rating levels in the final chapter (IV). Lists of all the works for this genre found in reference sources are noted in the Appendices A-E.

Download or read book An Annotated Bibliography of Canadian Music for Oboe, Oboe D'amore and English Horn Found in the Canadian Music Centre written by Sarah J. Hamilton and published by Ann Arbor, Mich. : University Microfilms International. This book was released on 1996 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Music for oboe, oboe d'amore and English horn by Canadian composers is not generally well-known in the oboe playing community. Specific descriptive information is needed to facilitate the performance and study of Canadian works. In this bibliography, fifty-five works for oboe, oboe d'amore, and English horn alone, with piano, organ or tape, with orchestra (when piano reductions were available), and in like ensembles, were closely examined for style and level of difficulty. Information concerning date of composition, duration, premiere, dedication, and commission was also sought. The study was limited to works deposited in the Canadian Music Centre because of the ready availability of the collection. Additional works are listed in the appendices.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Library Journal Starred Review (March 2024) praises the book as a "remarkable resource that will please both musical professionals and amateurs, along with teachers and their students, and conductors and singers.” Throughout the ages, people have wanted to sing in a communal context. This desire apparently stems from a deeply rooted human instinct. Consequently, choral performance historically has often been related to human rituals and ceremonies, especially rites of a religious nature. Historical Dictionary of Choral Music, Second Edition contains a chronology, an introduction, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary section has more than 1,300 cross-referenced entries on composers, conductors, choral ensembles, choral genres, and choral repertoire. This book is an excellent resource for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about choral music.

It is not a history or an encyclopedia but a guide to where to find answers to questions about chamber music. The third edition adds nearly 600 new entries to cover new research since publication of the previous edition in 2002. Most of the literature is books, articles in journals and magazines, dissertations and theses, and essays or chapters in Festschriften, treatises, and biographies. In addition to the core literature obscure citations are also included when they are the only studies in a particular field. In addition to being printed, this volume is also for the first time available online. The online environment allows for information to be updated as new research is introduced. This database of information is a "live" resource, fully searchable, and with active links. Users will have unlimited access, annual revisions will be made and a limited number of pages can be downloaded for printing.
