Download or read book A Review of Techniques for the Determination of Gold and Silver by Atomic-absorption Spectroscopy written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review is given of the various techniques that have been used for the determination of gold and silver by atomic-absorption spectroscopy. Although final measurements are usually made with standard, commercially available instruments, numerous chemical procedures have been used for the sample preparation. To improve overall sensitivity many investigators have made use of liquid-liquid extraction procedures. Most investigators have reported excellent agreement between the atomic-absorption procedures and the standard fire-assay procedure for the determination of gold.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This study investigated the solvent extraction of gold from chloride solution using a mixture of diisobutyl ketone (DIBK) and tri-octyl methylammonium chloride (with the trade name Aliquat 336) as the extractant and dimethylbenzene (xylene) as a diluent. The stability of various gold species was examined through the construction of an Eh-log [Cl−] diagram. The slope analysis method was used to evaluate the effects of chloride ions and extractant concentration on gold extraction from chloride solution. Gold extraction by the individual extractants was also examined. The extraction mechanisms were studied at an aqueous feed to organic solvent ratio of 10:1. Gold extracted into the organic phases was analyzed by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The slope analysis indicates the independence of acidity on gold extraction for both DIBK and Aliquat 336. One mole each of DIBK and Aliquat 336 reacted with one mole of gold species during the extraction process"--Leaf iii.

Book Synopsis The Determination, by Atomic-absorption Spectrophotometry, of Gold in Cupellation Prills and in Platinum-metal Concentrates. Laboratory Method No 79-7 by :
Download or read book The Determination, by Atomic-absorption Spectrophotometry, of Gold in Cupellation Prills and in Platinum-metal Concentrates. Laboratory Method No 79-7 written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gold in prills obtained by the lead-collection technique is determined after the prills have been dissolved in aqua regia and the gold has been extracted from the resulting solutions with dibutyl 'Carbitol'. The extraction is carried out from solutions in which the concentration of hydrochloric acid is not less than 4 molar. The extracted gold is diluted to volume with ethanol and is then determined by atomic-absorption spectrophotometry.

This book was released on 1980 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gold, when present in cyanide solutions at concentrations below 5 ug/ml, is extracted with Aliquat 336 in diisobutyl ketone, and is measured by atomic-absorption spectrophotometry. For concentrations higher than 5 ug/ml, the gold is measured direct on an acidified portion of the sample.

Book Synopsis Laboratory Method No PT 78-3. The Determination of Gold by Atomic Absorption, and of Platinum, Palladium, Rhodium, and Iridium by Spectrophotometry, in Solutions by :
Download or read book Laboratory Method No PT 78-3. The Determination of Gold by Atomic Absorption, and of Platinum, Palladium, Rhodium, and Iridium by Spectrophotometry, in Solutions written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gold is extracted with dibutyl 'Carbitol' and determined by an atomic-absorption method. The platinum-group metals in the aqueous phase are freed from traces of organic reagent by oxidation with perchloric acid, then converted to the chlorocomplexes and taken into solution with hydrochloric acid. Platinum and palladium are separated from rhodium and iridium by their conversion to the iodide complexes and subsequent extraction with 15 per cent tri-n-butyl ortho-phosphate in hexane, rhodium and iridium being left in the aqueous phase (a). Platinum and palladium are recovered by back-extraction with concentrated nitric acid after which the palladium is complexed with p-nitrosodimethylaniline and the absorption measured. The complex is then extracted with chloroform, leaving the platinum in the aqueous phase (b), in which it is determined. Rhodium and iridium left in aqueous phase (a) are converted to the chlorocomplexes after any iodides have been removed. Iridium is extracted with 1:1 tri-n-butyl ortho-phosphate in hexane in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. Rhodium is determined in the aqueous phase, and iridium is recovered from the organic phase by back-extraction with 1:9 hydrobromic acid. When the four platinum-group metals have been separated, they are determined spectrophotometrically.

Download or read book Laboratory Method No 78-8. The Determination, by Atomic-absorption Spectroscopy, of Platinum, Palladium, Rhodium, Ruthenium, and Gold in the Presence of Base Metals written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method for the determination, by atomic-absorption spectrophotometry, of platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, and gold is described. Vanadium in a perchloric acid medium is used as a releasing agent for the removal of interferences. Tin, magnesium, chromium, cobalt, nickel, aluminium, selenium, tellurium, calcium, copper, or sodium, in amounts below 5 g/l, and gold in an amount below 1 g/l, do not interfere. Silver and lead in amounts above 0.02 g/l may cause some loss of noble metals because of occlusion in the chloride precipitate formed. SO4(2-) above 1.5 g/l may cause an interference, and iron may cause a loss of gold owing to the reduction of this noble metal. The method is rapid, since all the noble metals can be measured in one solution, and is suitable for the analysis of solutions resulting from the nickel sulphide or tin collection procedures. Coefficients of variation for all the noble meals are less than 1 1/2 per cent.
