Book excerpt: Martín Anderson, author of ‘My Neighbor Mr. Lerner,’ takes us into the world of Sonia Concepción. Sonia is a fiercely independent single mother of two, who still believes in the tradition and values with which she was raised in Puerto Rico. She works hard to raise her son Miguel Angel and daughter Marisol. And she will do anything to defend them from the sometimes harsh realities of living in the Puerto Rican Diaspora of Chicago in the late 70s, even if this means sacrificing her life or taking the life of one who presents a danger to her children.

This book was released on 2015-01-28 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about a woman who died and was given a task from God. She was allowed to come back from death to deliver Gods directive to all. Im writing this book for two reasons. The first is to tell all believers in the church of Jesus Christ to do your works while it is day, for when night comes, no man will be able to work. Only what we do for Christ will last. When we die, we can only take our work for Jesus with us. Naked we came into the world, and naked we will leave this world. Hebrews 9:27 says, And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. The second reason is to honor my parents. I leave this book to the next generation. We have a great inheritance through Jesus our Lord and Savior. As the angel was escorting me back to earth; I heard Jesus call my name while I was in mid air, and when I looked back Jesus was standing on the clouds. His hair was long and white as the clouds, His hair was blowing in the wind. And He spoke these words to me, Sonia, tell all your Sisters and Brothers I said to do their Work.

Book excerpt: In this work, "The Gospels, Written In Psalm" nothing is added or taken away. The attraction of this edition is the presentation. Written in verse, it is remarkably easy to read. From the begging of Jesus' ministry to the crucifixion, the poetry never looses its appeal. In her own search for the reality of the unconditional love of God, not only did the author gain a clearer understanding herself, but she also found herself with the ability to present Him to others. As you read, you will find yourself in tears, and laughter. Joy will fill your soul. You will experience the love of God Himself; the love shown through Jesus Christ, and you will gain an understanding of the happenings of that time, when Christ himself walked the earth. You will never tire of this work, but you will find the love and compassion of God, Himself. You will find pictures being painted in your mind, and you will see yourself walking with Christ. You will understand the reality of letting Christ take over your life, and that you truly are a child of God. You will find that your victory lies in your ability to trust and believe. This ability has been given to us all. It is the author's hope that the churched as well as the un-churched will find that relationship with God, which they never realized was attainable.

Success is not measured by the speed at which we run a race, nor is it achieved by obtaining medals of gold, silver, or bronze. Rather, as women we will achieve success as we position ourselves to be obedient to the voice of God and embrace the discipline of our Heavenly Coach. We must not be distracted by whispers of doubt—both internally and externally—but enlarge our vision and focus on the goal. Sonia Henry uses personal life stories and scriptures to uncover the disciplines required to enter and complete the race of life successfully.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reverential, celebratory, antagonistic, and even erotic, this remarkable collection of essays interprets the Psalms as a collection of poetry. Written by 14 acclaimed poets, the essays approach the Psalms from a personal, often autobiographical perspective, demonstrating how relevant they remain for today’s readers. Alicia Ostriker examines the Psalms’ glory and their terror in a moving essay that revels in their moods of joy while acknowledging the brutality they invoke, linking their violence to events such as 9/11, the Palestinian uprisings, and the Rwandan massacres. Weaving autobiographical anecdotes with scholarly introspection, Enid Dame provides a Jewish explanation of Psalm 22, while editor Lynn Domina contemplates the pastoral life as she connects the everyday with phrases from the Psalms. From a former nun to a self-described left-wing Jew, from a Midrashic scholar to a Texas rancher, the contributors mirror the wide swath of humanity interested in, and affected by, the Psalms.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Open Shame, Open Glory speaks about Sonia Norris’ life as a child of God who fell as a result of her own actions. Through the direction of the Holy Spirit, she has given insight into her past experiences and has proven that God who created heaven and earth is real and is a God full of abundant mercies and overflowing grace. This book is for the non-believer as well as the believer. For the non-believer, it gives hope in this world of sin. For the believer who wants to go higher, it shows how through pressing in you can go behind the veil and dwell in the presence of God. However, desperation and obedience are the keys. For the non-believer or for those of you who may have fallen from grace, like Sonia did, this book shows clearly that nothing done in life is so awful that God will not accept you, mold and change you into what He has purposed for you to be.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Described by Thomas Mann as "e;brothers in spirit, but tragically grotesque companions in misfortune,"e; Nietzsche and Dostoevsky remain towering figures in the intellectual development of European modernity. Maia Johnson-Stepenberg's accessible new introduction to these philosophers compares their writings on key topics such as criminality, Christianity, and the figure of the "e;outsider"e; to reveal the urgency and contemporary resonance of their shared struggle against nihilism. Against Nihilism also considers nihilism in the context of current political and social struggles, placing Nietzsche and Dostoevsky's contributions at the heart of important contemporary debates regarding community, identity, and meaning. Inspired by class discussions with her students and aimed at first-team readers of Nietzsche and Dostoevsky, Against Nihilism provides an accessible, unique comparative study of these two key thinkers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Increasingly, scientists are gaining control over matter at the nanometer scale. Spearheaded by physical scientists operating at the interfaces of physics and biology (such as the author herself), advances in nanoscience and technology are transforming how we think about life and treat human health. This is due to a convergence of size. To do medicine, one must understand and be able to reach the nanoscale environment of healthy cells in tissues and organs, as well as other nano-sized building blocks that constitute a living organism, such as proteins and DNA. The ground-breaking advances being made at the frontiers of nanoscience and -technology, specifically in the areas of biology and medicine, are the subject of this short, popular-level book. Chapter 1 describes how nanotechnology and quantitative methods in biology are progressively being deployed to embrace life in all its multiscale, hierarchical intricacy and multiplicity. Chapters 2 through 4 review how bioinspired and biomimetic nanostructures and nanomachines are being created and integrated into strategies aimed at solving specific medical problems. In particular, Chapter 2 summarizes how scientists are seeking to build artificial nanostructures using both biological molecules and the organizational principles of biology. Chapter 3 gives an account of how nanotechnology is being used to develop drug-delivery strategies that specifically target cancer cells and tumors to improve the efficacy of current cancer chemotherapies. Chapter 4 reviews the science of one of the most potentially transformative scientific fields: tissue engineering. In a concluding chapter (Chapter 5), Contera reviews how nanotechnology, biology, and medicine will continue fusing with other sciences and technologies - incorporating more mathematical and computational modelling, as well as AI and robotics. Nanoscale devices will be used to learn biology; and biology will be used to inspire increasingly sophisticated "transmaterial" devices that mimic some of the characteristics of biology and incorporate new features that are not available in the biological world. The effects on human health and longevity will be profound. In a more personal epilogue, Contera describes the crossroads at which we find ourselves. Accessing our own biology evokes a mixture of possibility and dread. However, Contera maintains that we can create a positive transmaterial world for the benefit of humankind, and she describes ways in which scientists are proactively engaging with the public, politicians, industry, and entrepreneurs, as well as the media and the arts, to communicate the power and risks of new advances and to influence the ways in which new technologies will affect our future"--
