This book was released on 2010-07-07 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book begins with the fundamentals of the mathematical theory of plasticity. The discussion then turns to the theory of plastic stress and its applications to structural analysis. It concludes with a wide range of topics in dynamic plasticity including wave propagation, armor penetration, and structural impact in the plastic range. In view of the rapidly growing interest in computational methods, an appendix presents the fundamentals of a finite-element analysis of metal-forming problems.

Book Synopsis Plastic Behavior of Circular Plates Under Transverse Impulse Loadings of Gaussian Distribution by : Robert G. Thomson
Download or read book Plastic Behavior of Circular Plates Under Transverse Impulse Loadings of Gaussian Distribution written by Robert G. Thomson and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical study of the plastic response of a circular plate of uniform thickness subjected to a normal axisymmetric impulse of Gaussian distribution is presented. The Gaussian impulse loading is assumed initially to impart a momentum to the plate. The plate is thereafter prescribed as free from external loads. The kinetic energy of motion is assumed to be dissipated in plastic deformation. The radial and circumferential strain and strain-rate distributions of the plastically deforming plate are determined as a function of time and space from derived deflection expressions. Only the bending action of the plate is taken into account and the plate material is assumed to behave as a perfectly plastic-rigid continuum. The possibility of a fracture or separation of the plate material occurring during deformation is discussed. Maximum values of strain and strain rate are shown to occur in the circumferential components, and a mode of failure by radial fractures is indicated.
Book Synopsis The Non-Linear Bending of a Clamped Circular Plate Under Uniform Normal Pressure by : Johny Hellmann
Download or read book The Non-Linear Bending of a Clamped Circular Plate Under Uniform Normal Pressure written by Johny Hellmann and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theoretical and numerical analysis is presented for the elastic deflections and stresses of an initially flat circular plate with clamped fixed edge, under uniform normal pressure. In considering large deflection bending, i.e. deflections up to several thicknesses of the plate, we are led to two coupled partial differential equations which are given in the literature by Foppl and von Karman. We attempt an approximative solution of these equations by representing each of the unknown functions of these equations as a formal series of eigenfunctions. We choose the most natural set of eigenfunctions, the Bessel functions of index one, each of which individually satisfied all but one of the boundary conditions. We then calculate, by means of computer methods, deflection and stress results which turn out to be in strikingly good agreement with earlier theoretical and experimental results in the literature. All of this is accomplished with but a five or nine mode solution, which can be found with very little effort. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanical engineering, an engineering discipline forged and shaped by the needs of the industrial revolution, is once again asked to do its substantial share in the call for industrial renewal. The general call is urgent as we face profound issues of productivity and competitiveness that require engineering solutions, among others . The Mechanical Engineering Series features graduate texts and research monographs intended to address the need for information in contemporary areas of mechanical engineering. The series is conceived as a comprehensive one that covers a broad range of c- centrations important to mechanical engineering graduate education and research . We are fortunate to have a distinguished roster of consulting editors on the ad- sory board, each an expert in one of the areas of concentration . The names of the consulting editors are listed on the facing page of this volume . The areas of conc- tration are applied mechanics, biomechanics, computational mechanics, dynamic systems and control, energetics , mechanics of materials, processing, production systems, thermal science, and tribology .

Book Synopsis Normal-pressure Tests of Circular Plates with Clamped Edges by : Albert E. McPherson
Download or read book Normal-pressure Tests of Circular Plates with Clamped Edges written by Albert E. McPherson and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fixture is described for making normal-pressure tests of flat plates 5 inches in diameter in which particular care was taken to obtain rigid clamping at the edges. Results are give for 19 plates, ranging in thickness from 0.015 to 0.072 inch. The center deflections and the extreme-fiber stresses at low pressures were found to agree with theoretical values; the center deflections at high pressures were 4 to 12 percent greater than the theoretical values. Empirical curves are derived of the pressure for the beginning of permanent set as a function of the dimensions of the plate and the tensile properties of the material.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Materials Behavior Models, Three-Volume Set by : Jean LeMaitre
Download or read book Handbook of Materials Behavior Models, Three-Volume Set written by Jean LeMaitre and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-11-17 with total page 1231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first of a kind reference/handbook deals with nonlinear models and properties of material. In the study the behavior of materials' phenomena no unique laws exist. Therefore, researchers often turn to models to determine the properties of materials. This will be the first book to bring together such a comprehensive collection of these models. The Handbook deals with all solid materials, and is organized first by phenomena. Most of the materials models presented in an applications-oriented fashion, less descriptive and more practitioner-geared, making it useful in the daily working activities of professionals. The Handbook is divided into three volumes. Volume I, Deformation of Materials, introduces general methodologies in the art of modeling, in choosing materials, and in the "so-called" size effect. Chapters 2-5 deal respectively with elasticity and viscoelasticity, yield limit, plasticity, and visco-plasticity. Volume II, Failures in Materials, provides models on such concerns as continuous damage, cracking and fracture, and friction wear. Volume III, Multiphysics Behavior, deals with multiphysics coupled behaviors. Chapter's 10 and 11 are devoted to special classes of materials (composites, biomaterials, and geomaterials). The different sections within each chapter describe one model each with its domain of validity, its background, its formulation, the identification of material parameters for as many materials as possible, and advice on how to implement or use the model. The study of the behavior of materials, especially solids, is related to hundreds of areas in engineering design and control. Predicting how a material will perform under various conditions is essential to determining the optimal performance of machines and vehicles and the structural integrity of buildings, as well as safety issues. Such practical examples would be how various new materials, such as those used in new airplane hulls, react to heat or cold or sudden temperature changes, or how new building materials hold up under extreme earthquake conditions. The Handbook of Materials Behavior Models: Gathers together 117 models of behavior of materials written by the most eminent specialists in their field Presents each model's domain of validity, a short background, its formulation, a methodology to identify the materials parameters, advise on how to use it in practical applications as well as extensive references Covers all solid materials: metals, alloys, ceramics, polymers, composites, concrete, wood, rubber, geomaterials such as rocks, soils, sand, clay, biomaterials, etc Concerns all engineering phenomena: elasticity, viscoelasticity, yield limit, plasticity, viscoplasticity, damage, fracture, friction, and wear
