Since the appearance of these articles in "Mines and Minerals" they have been rewritten, and such material added as to bring them up to date. This book is not intended to supersede any of the more extensive works on this subject, but rather to prepare the student to make accurate assays and ore tests. It will be found especially valuable to superintendents and others connected with mines, who have not had the advantage of a technical education. The absence of cuts of modern assaying appliances from the larger works on the subject has prompted the author to fully illustrate this book with cuts of the latest improved apparatus. The author wishes to thank the manufacturers of the appliances shown for their kindness in furnishing cuts. Also F. W. In preparing this book the author has consulted the leading works on assaying, and to this information has added such material from his own experience as he deemed of value.
