The poems within explore the many facets of strength in the hopes we never allow strength to become merely a silhouette.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the heart of James Harpur’s The White Silhouette is a meditative poem inspired by the Book of Kells – a poem that follows threads into themes such as the nature of the divine, the efficacy of sacred art, and the way of silence. The title poem – described in the TLS as a ‘compelling spiritual memoir’ – is a haunting journey of ‘missed encounters’ in the landscapes of Wiltshire, Tipperary, and Patmos. Elsewhere, Harpur writes about pilgrimage, the Perseids, mystical experiences, and icons and iconoclasm – from Rublev’s golden images to decapitated angels in Galway. He complements his explorations of the sacred with more directly personal poems, including elegies and elegiac translations from Homer and Horace. Harpur’s poetry is distinguished by its lyric grace and mythohistorical resonance. The musical texture of his lines conveys the warmth, clarity and intimacy of a voice exploring the mysteries of natural, human, and metaphysical worlds. The White Silhouette is the richest summation of his spiritual journey to date.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The journey for the truth of self offers the opportunity for triumph and failure. Often as we search for who we’re meant to be in life, we misplace ourselves for a little while. Even when we’re struggling to reconnect with our misplaced cores, we can’t help but be ourselves. Life is simply a journey to fill in the gaps, to find our truths, to become our best selves. When we embrace the all of who we are, we live richer, fuller lives and avoid being simply reflections in silhouette…

Love connects us. Love disappoints us. Love distinguishes us. Love extinguishes us. Love abandons us. Love creates expectations. Love fulfills lives. Love is always a risk worth exploring even when it fails. Love is poetry… Poetry is love… Love becomes a silhouette.

Book excerpt: The poems In W. C. Flewelling's fifth collection, IN SILHOUETTE, present the acute observation of people and nature whose meanings lie beneath the quiet surface of domestic life, meanings only a poet's sure hand can uncover. John Mann, Poet and friend I enjoyed the collection, though I might be tempted to call it "The Dog man, The Poet and The Preacher"! "Assignation of Delight" is one of my absolute favorites. I'm glad it's here. (Also love "The Old Goat's Name" -- with its endearing revelation of "Bill"! -- and "Unfolding of the Night" - what a gorgeous spare poem that is!) I enjoy the animal and nature poems as ever. In the aggregate, they capture your sense and sound appealingly. The poems that touch grief, illness & dying are especially effective. As are your poems about children. Interestingly, I find the final poems -- say from the mid-90s to the end -- some of the clearest, sharpest and most gratifying of the bunch. Each one pops. It's almost as if the book increases momentum as it nears its end. Guy Kettelhack, poet and friend

Book excerpt: Edward Scott is a man who live for the truth, and a man who grew up on a small farm in West Oakland, California. Unlike other farms where they raise pigs, chickens and cattle, on this farm they raise people for jails, institutions, and death. So he strives and survives to write these truths into metaphor. During his elementary school years, Scott attended Cole Elementary School in Oakland where he won his first poetry contest called My Dream for My Country. That poetry was base on Scotts account of the Vietnam War, and he also got recognition from the state of Washington governor during that time. Scott was sent to Longfellow Elementary School during his school years for gifted students. While at Longfellow he received the attention from his teacher Mrs. Jones who inspired and taught him how to write books. Scotts knowledge of writing books continues throughout his junior and senior school years at McClymonds High School. Later in life, Scott self published two of his poetry books called No Reasonable Explanations Required and The Afterbirth. Author House Publication published Scotts third poetry book called The Metamonphi of the Phenomeni, and all three books are now available.

These poems represent an artistic viewpoint about the growth that I had to undertake to uplift the child of my past. My thoughts and sensitivities go way beyond the words and the twists of the unspoken language, touching on various topics such as child abuse, dysfunctional parenting, toxic relationships, addiction, death, anger, and love. My overall hope is that poetry will inspire intense healing or convey a hidden message that will enable you to find that hidden spark to begin your healing journey.
