Book Synopsis The Uses of PLATO: a Computer-controlled Teaching System by : Donald Lester Bitzer
Download or read book The Uses of PLATO: a Computer-controlled Teaching System written by Donald Lester Bitzer and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of a high-speed digital computer as a central control element provides great flexibility in an automatic teaching system. Using a computer-based system permits versatility in teaching logics since changing the type of teacher merely requires changing the computer program, not the hardware. In addition, having access to the decision-making capacity of a large computer located as one unit permits complicated decisions to be made for each student. Such capacity would be prohibitively expensive to provide by means of decisionmaking equipment located at each student station. The results of exploratory queuing studies show that the system could teach as many as a thousand students simultaneously without incurring a noticeable delay for any student's request. The educational results thus far have been extremely encouraging. However, reliable conclusions on educational achievement must await the results of more thorough experiments now in progress which include larger numbers of students learning under a variety of conditions. The adaptability and useability of the system for a variety of purposes in education and the behavioral and physical sciences have been clearly demonstrated. (Author).
Book Synopsis Language and Operational Thought by : Barbara Presseisen
Download or read book Language and Operational Thought written by Barbara Presseisen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second volume in a series that records the official Symposium Pro ceedings of the Jean Piaget Society. Like the first volume, this work includes theoretical, empirical, and applied aspects of Jean Piaget' s seminal epistemology. The focus of this publication is the intricate interplay of language development and the development of operational thought. All the papers in this volume were presented at the third and fourth annual symposia of the Society. The authors are a formidable group of scholars from around the world who are working in Piagetian theory in many fields of endea vor. Their work shows the breadth and depth of Piaget's studies, as well as the richness of his ideas over time. The Jean Piaget Society was founded to provide a forum in which scholars and educators could examine and explicate the concepts of genetic epistemology. In many cases, the papers presented at the annual symposia raise many more issues than they resolve. That they generate discussion and further research is self-evident. Such activity is a tribute both to Professor Piaget and to the Society. Further volumes in this series will record the research presented at later symposia.
Book Synopsis A Descriptive List of PLATO Programs by : Elisabeth R. Lyman
Download or read book A Descriptive List of PLATO Programs written by Elisabeth R. Lyman and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report supersedes CSL Report R-186 and CSL Report R-296 (June, 1966). It lists with brief descriptions the teaching lesson sequences which have been using tutorial logics, inquiry logics, or combinations thereof. The version of the PLATO system for which the lessons were written is specified in each instance. PLATO I and PLATO II lessons are no longer operable because the PLATO I and PLATO II systems are now obsolete, but several of these lessons have been rewritten for the present version of the software and hardware, PLATO III.
