This book was released on 2001 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is an annotated bibliography of research conducted on military recruiting by the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI), the other U.S. military services, and foreign military organizations. To provide a framework for the research summaries, they are organized around a model of military recruitment showing the important factors contributing to successful recruiting. The model contains the following factors: (1) personnel selection and assessment; (2) training and development; (3) recruiting management and organization; (4) recruiter performance; (3) marketing; (6) youth supply, characteristics, and influencers; (7) propensity; (8) enlistment decisions; and (9) delayed entry programs. One hundred fifty-one reports are summarized, describing recruiting research most relevant to the current U.S. military recruiting environment. It is hoped that the review provides a comprehensive yet concise picture of the research results generated by the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and foreign service recruiting research communities."--DTIC.

Book Synopsis Developing an Instrument for Measuring the Attitudes of Hispanics in the Navy: A Pilot Study by : John Scott
Download or read book Developing an Instrument for Measuring the Attitudes of Hispanics in the Navy: A Pilot Study written by John Scott and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental instrument was developed to assess the attitudes of Hispanic sailors on active duty. The instrument was made up of projective pictures, semantic differential scales, open-ended sentences/questions, and items to assess English and Spanish ability, intention to reenlist, and so forth. The experimental instrument was administered individually to fourteen (14) Hispanic sailors, seven Mexican-Americans and seven Puerto Ricans. Findings indicate that the instrument is capable of tapping subjective attitudes toward Navy life, about fellow sailors (whites, Blacks, and Hispanics) reenlistment, the family, etc. Suggestions for revising the instrument for large scale administration to groups, and future research needs are also given. Book Synopsis Social Attitudes Among Hispanic and Mainstream Navy Recruits by : Harry C. Triandis
Download or read book Social Attitudes Among Hispanic and Mainstream Navy Recruits written by Harry C. Triandis and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eighty Hispanic and 80 Mainstream Navy recruits responded to a 78 item questionnaire measuring attitudes toward a broad sample of social issues. Several factor analyses were carried out and revealed that only one factor (Religiosity) had the same meaning for the two samples. There were no differences between the two samples on religiosity. The structuring of the items by the two samples suggests different concerns and emphases: The Mainstream factors contrast Sexual Liberalism with Conservatism. The most similar Hispanic factor linked this dimension with Religiosity. The Mainstream data produced a Tendermindedness factor that has emerged in many factor analyses of social attitudes done on data obtained from college students, but the Hispanics did not produce this factor. The Hispanics produced a Political Conservatism vs Liberalism factor which the Mainstream sample did not produce; also a Mysticism factor which was missing from the Mainstream factor analysis. We conclude that the stereotype of Hispanics as more religious than the Mainstream is not supported by these data. At least, the way the Navy is recruiting Hispanics there is no evidence in support of that stereotype. The Hispanic emphasis on a Political factor suggests that they may be more concerned with this dimension than Mainstream Navy recruits. That finding also fits other data collected in this project which shows that the Hispanic Navy recruits have a more complex perception of political stimuli than the Mainstream.
Book Synopsis An Exploratory Study of Hispanic Officer Recruiting in the Mexican- American Community of South-Central Los Angeles by : Javier Hernandez
Download or read book An Exploratory Study of Hispanic Officer Recruiting in the Mexican- American Community of South-Central Los Angeles written by Javier Hernandez and published by . This book was released on 2003-06-01 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis examines factors relating to youth interest in joining the Navy among the Hispanic population in South-Central Los Angeles, California. The study begins with a comprehensive review of literature on Hispanics of Mexican origin. Information on youth interest in the Navy is gleaned from personal interviews with teachers, counselors, JROTC instructors, military recruiters, and local clergy. The results suggest that Hispanic youths are limited from pursuing higher education because of poor academic preparation, underdeveloped English-language skills, poverty, and crime. The population also faces unique cultural and regional challenges that stem from historical influences and the close proximity of Mexico to the U.S. Additionally, evidence suggests that high school teachers and administrators are often barriers to youth awareness of military service. It is recommended that the Navy or Department of Defense form partnerships with schools and community organizations in largely Hispanic regions to identify and overcome the various obstacles that limit youth from pursuing higher education, learning about opportunities for military service, and qualifying for the Navy's officer programs.

Book Synopsis Work Values of Hispanic and Mainstream Navy Recruits by : William Ross
Download or read book Work Values of Hispanic and Mainstream Navy Recruits written by William Ross and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Navy recruits (81 Hispanic and 79 Mainstream) responded to 132 Likert format items measuring work values. The items were based on Buchholz's five work ethics (Protestant work ethic, leisure ethic, organizational belief system, humanism, and Marxist-related belief system) as modified by Ross and Hulin. Cluster analyses revealed some similarities in the way Hispanics and Mainstream recruits responded, but there were also several culturally-specific clusters. Comparisons across those items with similar meanings (because they clustered similarly) suggested that the Hispancis are somewhat more ideological and collectivistic, emphasizing interpersonal cooperation and help. Both groups had moderately positive attitudes toward work, but the Hispanics tended to be more positive than Mainstream recruits. It is probable that the more positive Hispanic work values reflect two factors: Hispanics attempt to make a good impression to a greater extent than do Mainstream recruits, and the Navy is selecting Hispancis who have values similar to the values of the Mainstream recruits. The latter point has implications for Navy recruiting policies. (Author).
