Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A systematic numerical study of the unsteady viscous incompressible fluid flow past a circular cylinder is reported. The range of the Reynolds number considered is 1 to 100. The steady state solutions could be obtained at the Reynolds numbers R = 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 as the limit of the unsteady state solutions. The numerical results are compared with those for the steady problem and they are found to be in agreement. Dependency on the Reynolds number and the time of the flow pattern, vorticity distribution, pressure distribution and the drag are shown. (Author).

Book Synopsis Hydrodynamics Around Cylindrical Structures by : Jorgen Fredsoe
Download or read book Hydrodynamics Around Cylindrical Structures written by Jorgen Fredsoe and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-03-17 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the subject of wave/current flow around a cylinder, the forces induced on the cylinder by the flow, and the vibration pattern of slender structures in a marine environment. The primary aim of the book is to describe the flow pattern and the resulting load which develops when waves or current meet a cylinder. Attention is paid to the special case of a circular cylinder. The development in the forces is related to the various flow patterns and is discussed in detail. Regular as well as irregular waves are considered, and special cases like wall proximities (pipelines) are also investigated. The book is intended for MSc students with some experience in basic fluid mechanics and for PhD students.

Book Synopsis Numerical Study of an Unsteady Flow of Thixotropic Liquids Past a Cylinder by :
Download or read book Numerical Study of an Unsteady Flow of Thixotropic Liquids Past a Cylinder written by and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a numerical study of a complex fluid flow past a circular cylinder. The fluid is a thixotropic viscoplastic material. Thixotropy is a time-dependent rheological property associated with the material’s microstructure, which can be broken and/or built up during a flowing process. It is modeled using a structural parameter representing the structural state, which can vary from being completely broken to fully structured. Effects of the thixotropic parameters controlling the rate of the structural breakdown and recovery processes on the flow characteristics are investigated. Either the Herschel–Bulkley model or the Bingham model is employed together with Papanastasiou’s regularization scheme. A review on the determination of the regularization parameter is carried out; a new approach to this is thus proposed. Various flow aspects such as the unyielded/rigid zones, the structural evolution, and the vortex structures are analyzed. Results show that at Re = 150 and Bn ≤ 5, the flow is nonstationary with periodic vortex shedding. The structural state is found to correlate well with the vortex structures. A full structural recovery can happen either within or beyond the yield boundary, or even beyond the computational domain. Moreover, the drag coefficient is reported and discussed
Book Synopsis Bluff-Body Wakes, Dynamics and Instabilities by : Helmut Eckelmann
Download or read book Bluff-Body Wakes, Dynamics and Instabilities written by Helmut Eckelmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-05 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bluff-body wakes play an important role in many fluid dynamics problems and engineering applications. This book gives and up-to-date account of recent results obtained in the study of bluff-body wakes. Experimental, theoretical and numerical approaches are all comprehensively covered and compared. Topics of particular interest include hydrodynamic instability analyses, three-dimensional pattern formation problems, flow control methods, bifurcation analyses, numerical simulations and turbulence modelling. The main originality of thisvolume is that recent conceptual advances made to describe nonlinear phenomena in general are put to the test on a classical problem in fundamental fluid mechanics, namely the wake structure generated behind a bluff object.
Book Synopsis Numerical Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow by : Suhas Patankar
Download or read book Numerical Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow written by Suhas Patankar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on heat and mass transfer, fluid flow, chemical reaction, and other related processes that occur in engineering equipment, the natural environment, and living organisms. Using simple algebra and elementary calculus, the author develops numerical methods for predicting these processes mainly based on physical considerations. Through this approach, readers will develop a deeper understanding of the underlying physical aspects of heat transfer and fluid flow as well as improve their ability to analyze and interpret computed results.

Book Synopsis Computational Methods for Fluid Flow by : Roger Peyret
Download or read book Computational Methods for Fluid Flow written by Roger Peyret and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In developing this book, we decided to emphasize applications and to provide methods for solving problems. As a result, we limited the mathematical devel opments and we tried as far as possible to get insight into the behavior of numerical methods by considering simple mathematical models. The text contains three sections. The first is intended to give the fundamen tals of most types of numerical approaches employed to solve fluid-mechanics problems. The topics of finite differences, finite elements, and spectral meth ods are included, as well as a number of special techniques. The second section is devoted to the solution of incompressible flows by the various numerical approaches. We have included solutions of laminar and turbulent-flow prob lems using finite difference, finite element, and spectral methods. The third section of the book is concerned with compressible flows. We divided this last section into inviscid and viscous flows and attempted to outline the methods for each area and give examples.
