Book Synopsis On the Effect of Transverse Curvature in Compressible Laminar Boundary Layer Flow Over Slender Bodies of Revolution by : Jan Raat
Download or read book On the Effect of Transverse Curvature in Compressible Laminar Boundary Layer Flow Over Slender Bodies of Revolution written by Jan Raat and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of transverse curvature on the compressible laminar boundary layer flow over slender axisymmetric powerlaw bodies is investigated, employing the momentum integral technique. Pressure gradients are neglected and the body surface is assumed to be insulated. Asymptotic solutions for the skin friction coefficient are derived in the regimes of weak and strong curvature effects. A numerical integration, covering the entire range of curvature effects, was carried out for the cone. (Author).

This book was released on 1969 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The equations of motion and total enthalpy are derived for a compressible turbulent boundary layer on an axisymmetric or two-dimensional surface with non-negligible longitudinal curvature. From these equations are derived the integral-momentum, kinetic-energy, and total-enthalpy equations for non-negligible longitudinal curvature. Calculations indicate that if concave curvature increases the skin friction sufficiently separation is delayed although the boundary layer is thickened. Also, an increase in curvature in the direction in which the surface pressure rises acts to hasten separation for concave curvature and delay it for convex curvature. (Author).

Book excerpt: Numerical solutions of the boundary layer equations with arbitrary initial profiles and an assigned constant wall shear stress were carried out. Results show that after an initial non-similar flow all initial profiles for incompressible flow asymptotically approach similar profiles corresponding exactly to the Falkner-Skan similar solution. The streamwise distance required for any arbitrary initial profile to approach this similar profile depends upon the extent of departure of the initial profile from the beta = 1/2 similar profile (the larger the difference the longer the distance). For compressible boundary layers, constant wall shear stress solutions give rise to asymptotic locally similar profiles, with no particular similar profile having been determined in the present analysis. Book Synopsis Numerical Solution of the Equations for Compressible Laminar, Transitional, and Turbulent Boundary Layers and Comparisons with Experimental Data by : Julius E. Harris

Harris and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical method for solving the equations for laminar, transitional, and turbulent compressible boundary layers for either planar or axisymmetric flows is presented. The fully developed turbulent region is treated by replacing the Reynolds stress terms with an eddy viscosity model. The mean properties of the transitional boundary layer are calculated by multiplying the eddy viscosity by an intermittency function based on the statistical production and growth of the turbulent spots. A specifiable turbulent Prandtl number relates the turbulent flux of heat to the eddy viscosity. A three-point implicit finite-difference scheme is used to solve the system of equations. The momentum and energy equations are solved simultaneously without iteration. Numerous test cases are compared with experimental data for supersonic and hypersonic flows; these cases include flows with both favorable and mildly unfavorable pressure gradient histories, mass flux at the wall, and traverse curvature.
