Book Synopsis When the Church Was a Family by : Joseph H. Hellerman
Download or read book When the Church Was a Family written by Joseph H. Hellerman and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2009-08-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiritual formation occurs primarily in the context of community. But as the modern cultural norm of what social scientists call “radical American individualism” extends itself, many Christians grow lax in their relational accountability to the church. Faith threatens to become an “I” not “us,” a “my God” not “our God” concern. When the Church Was a Family calls believers back to the wisdom of the first century, examining the early Christian church from a sociohistorical perspective and applying the findings to the evangelical church in America today. With confidence, author Joseph Hellerman writes intentionally to traditional church leaders and emerging church visionaries alike, believing what is detailed here about Jesus’ original vision for authentic Christian community will deeply satisfy the relational longings of both audiences.

Download or read book Ode to the Front End written by Charles Ford and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2022-04-29 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is somewhat unique. I am not the author although it was written through me . He is the author not me. Why I ended up being the one to be used by Him remains a complete baffling mystery. I am simply His humble steward in this process. Everyone living in America recognizes Home Depot. They are a staple. It is a poem containing 2,500 quatrains that contain life as a part time cashier in a small Home Depot store. It is not always easy reading but it has appeal and value for anyone willing to read it. What are the takeaways? For me the greatest takeaway is humility. The people portrayed in thsi writing are far superior to me. I am not worthy to be the proverbial gum on their shoe. Their trust and friendship provided me is more valuable than gold from Ophir. They live very difficult lives in an extraordinary manner. They never had a level playing filed. they must climb Mt Everest each day. There is humor, pathos and at times Upton Sinclair type muckraking all mixed into the writing. The work shows the good and the bad of life, work and in some ways America today.

Book Synopsis Is God Incompetent? by : Geoffrey E L Bennett
Download or read book Is God Incompetent? written by Geoffrey E L Bennett and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is God to blame for natural disasters? Does He cause volcanic action, flooding, earthquakes, plague and genetic disease? Can He Prevent them? Why doesn’t He? Geoffrey E L Bennett uncovers deep Biblical insights linking them to twenty-first century cultural and scientific answers. Is God cruel or callous? Is He impotent or incompetent? How can I know if God even exists? Part one explores pain and shows how different cultural groups understand God to be vindictive and cruel, or else limited in power, or believe that suffering does not really exist. Part two examines Old Testament teaching on suffering, challenging the idea of ancient wisdom. Profound teaching is dissected from the minor and major prophets as well as the story of Job. Then the New Testament fulfillment of prophecy is examined, challenging perceived ideas, and finishes with an interpretation of the Apocalypse. The concluding solution to pain and suffering of God. Part three deals with scientific theories and twenty-first century concepts of the universe and the physical world, together with raw nature and biogenetic problems. What place does God have in our modern world? Do natural disasters “Acts of God” show a limited or incompetent Deity?

Book Synopsis Death of Meriwether Lewis by : James Starrs
Download or read book Death of Meriwether Lewis written by James Starrs and published by River Junction Press LLC. This book was released on 2012-12-01 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even after more than two centuries, mystery continues to surround Meriwether Lewis’s death—did the famous explorer commit suicide or was he murdered? Recently revealed truths and deconstructed myths are woven together in this fascinating account to form an unforgettable tale of political corruption, assassins, forged documents, and skeletal remains. New research implicating General James Wilkinson—commanding general of the U.S. Army and coconspirator of Aaron Burr—as the assassin is thoroughly discussed, while riveting testimony from 13 leading experts in wound ballistics, forensic anthropology, suicide psychology, grave-site exhumation, and handwriting analysis offers new insight into what Lewis’s exhumed remains might reveal. The new evidence not only destroys the foundation of suicide arguments by proving the primary evidence is a forgery, it also proves the Indian Agent escorting Lewis lied about his activities on the day of Lewis's death. The book also contains evidence of a previously unknown plot by Aaron Burr to seize New Orleans and invade Mexico in 1809, a repeat of his 1806 plot. It explains why Lewis suddenly changed his plans to travel to Washington, DC, by boat, and instead chose to go overland on the Natchez Trace, where he met his untimely death on October 11, 1809, at age 35.
Book Synopsis Sons, Servants and Statesmen by : John Van der Kiste
Download or read book Sons, Servants and Statesmen written by John Van der Kiste and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2011-10-21 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How was Queen Victoria influenced by her closest male ministers, relatives, advisers and servants? John Van der Kiste is the first to explore this aspect of Victoria's life; focusing on four roles - mentors, family, ministers and servants. A soldier's daughter, Victoria lost her father at the age of eight months. Although her uncle Leopold did his best to be a substitute father, the absence of her real father probably influenced her throughout her life, not least in choosing her husband. Her close and faithful relationship with Albert is one of the great royal love stories but her relationships with her sons were much more stormy. However, with most of her heads of government she enjoyed relatively cordial relations - in widowhood she shoed a decided partiality for Disraeli, who acquired for her the title Empress of India, but disliked Gladstone, complaining that he "speaks to me as if I were a public meeting". Queen Victoria's relationships with her servants are also explored, from the liberal influence exerted over the increasingly conservative queen by her private secretary, Ponsonby, to the outspoken John Brown and the Indian Munshi, who both antagonised those around her.
