Book Synopsis Contemporary Studies on Fish Feeding by : Charles A. Simenstad

This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GUTSHOP '84 was the fourth in a series of workshops on various aspects of fish feeding (Table 1). Initially, the organizers merely invited regional (Pacific Northwest) fisheries scientists to share, and possibly develop mutual solutions to, the many technical problems associated with trying to obtain meaningful, quantitative information from fish stomach contents, and the subsequent statistical treatment and interpretation of the multivariate data. Since then, although not explicitly based upon any internal cycle, these scientists and increasingly more and more dispersed colleagues continued to congregate for workshop deliberations every two or three years. From the 49 attendees at the first workshop, the number of participants had grown to 65 at GUTSHOP '78, and 107 at GUTSHOP '81. By the third workshop, we were drawing scientists from across the U. S. and Canada, and from as far away as Norway. The topical content of the workshops has also evolved from the predominantly technical aspects of fish collection and stomach contents processing techniques, statistical analysis, and data manipulation and presentation to considerations of theoretical ecology, bioenergetics, and behavior.
Book Synopsis Multivariate Methods in Aquaculture Research by : Mark Prein
Download or read book Multivariate Methods in Aquaculture Research written by Mark Prein and published by WorldFish. This book was released on 1993 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papers in this book discuss the emphasis on tilapia, modelling of pond aquaculture, exploratory and confirmatory methods for multivariate analysis, the relationships between multiple regression and analysis of variance and the rationale for sharing and analyzing "old", public domain data, all with emphasis on tropical/subtropical aquaculture systems.
Book Synopsis Ecological Risk Assessment by : Glenn W. Suter II
Download or read book Ecological Risk Assessment written by Glenn W. Suter II and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-10-23 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, environmental scientists have been required to perform a new type of assessment-ecological risk assessment. This is the first book that explains how to perform ecological risk assessments and gives assessors access to the full range of useful data, models, and conceptual approaches they need to perform an accurate assessment. It explains how ecological risk assessment relates to more familiar types of assessments. It also shows how to organize and conduct an ecological risk assessment, including defining the source, selecting endpoints, describing the relevant features of the receiving environment, estimating exposure, estimating effects, characterizing the risks, and interacting with the risk manager. Specific technical topics include finding and selecting toxicity data; statistical and mathematical models of effects on organisms, populations, and ecosystems; estimation of chemical fate parameters; modeling of chemical transport and fate; estimation of chemical uptake by organisms; and estimation, propagation, and presentation of uncertainty. Ecological Risk Assessment also covers conventional risk assessments, risk assessments for existing contamination, large scale problems, exotic organisms, and risk assessments based on environmental monitoring. Environmental assessors at regulatory agencies, consulting firms, industry, and government labs need this book for its approaches and methods for ecological risk assessment. Professors in ecology and other environmental sciences will find the book's practical preparation useful for classroom instruction. Environmental toxicologists and chemists will appreciate the discussion of the utility for risk assessment of particular toxicity tests and chemical determinations.

Book Synopsis Developments in Environmental Modelling by : S.E. Jorgensen
Download or read book Developments in Environmental Modelling written by S.E. Jorgensen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-04-20 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of models to assess water quality is becoming increasingly important worldwide. In order to be able to develop a good model, it is necessary to have a good quantitative and ecological description of physical, chemical and biological processes in ecosystems. Such descriptions may be called ``submodels''. This book presents the most important, but not all, submodels applied in water quality modelling. Each chapter deals with a specific physical process and covers its importance, the most applicable submodels (and how to select one), parameter values and their determination, and future research needs. The book will be an excellent reference source for environmental engineers, ecological modellers and all those interested in the modelling of water quality systems.
