This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Memoir of Sir Salar Jung G. C. S. I IN October last, with the consent and approval of His Excellency, the preparation of a work giving an Historical and Descriptive Sketch of His Highness's Dominions was commenced in my office. T he' want of such a compilation had long been felt, and as it had been the intention of His Highness to visit England this year, a book of reference concerning the great Province of Which he; is the hereditary ruler would have proved useful to all who desired to know something about Haidarabad and its Prince. The compilation of the work was completed a short time previous to the occurrence of the melancholy event which has led to the postponement of His Highness's tour. The majority of the following pages form a portion of the book; but as it is believed that the public would welcome a Memoir, however brief, of one who has been a conspicuous figure amongst the great men of India for the past thirty years, it was decided to print the Memoir in advance of the larger work. The latter is also in. The publishers' hands, and will be issixed in the course of a month or two. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Age of Imperialism reached its peak in the late nineteenth century. The British Empire was the foremost colonial power, and the keystone was India. However, even at its peak, the British Raj was beset by internal rivalries and fears of external threats. In 1875, British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli chose as viceroy Lord Robert Bulwer-Lytton, diplomat and poet, the son of an old friend, but someone with no Indian experience. Lytton accepted reluctantly—and never enjoyed it. He was under the thumb of the Secretary of State for India, the shrewd and ambitious Third Marquess of Salisbury, during most of his four years in India. During his viceroyalty, Lytton had to deal with shifting British policies, a major famine, the freedom-loving people of Afghanistan, an entrenched civil service, and a rising generation of patriotic Indians. In the 1880 elections, Disraeli’s Conservatives were defeated by Gladstone’s Liberals, and Lytton resigned.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Fall of 1892, Alexander Russell Webb, the American consul to the Philippine Islands, resigned his post and set off for a tour of the Indian subcontinent. Webb had converted to Islam and partnered with Indian Muslims to commence an Islamic mission to the United States. Part of the agreement allowed Webb to travel to India on his way back to America and visit cities with large Muslim populations. This work encompasses his travels, including: his departure from Manila, sea voyages, stays in Singapore and Penang, and most notably, the more than two months that he spent amongst the Muslims of Rangoon, Calcutta, Bombay, Poona, Hyderabad, and Madras. During Webb's travels he met with many prominent members of the Indian Muslim community, and presented lectures on Islam to large audiences. As an American Muslim, and one of the first converts in North America to Islam, his first-person accounts provide a unique perspective and historical account of Colonial India and Indian Muslims in particular. A primary document that will prove invaluable in studying the early Muslim history of the United States and its relationship to India. Complete with historical Introduction, Notes, Bibliography, and detailed Index.
