Book excerpt: In this book, I am going to bring to you the revelation of the Holy Numbers of GOD; a revelation which I have received from the LORD JESUS CHRIST through the power of the HOLY SPIRIT for HIS GLORY. The LORD wants them to be known by all those who seek to know HIM through HIS WORD in power; because I believe that numbers have a lot to do with the power and understanding of the WORD OF GOD. The HOLY SPIRIT told me that it would open up the revelation of truth of the Scriptures, and yes, I believe it to be very, very important! The Scriptures reveal GOD to be a GOD of numbers; and the Psalmist said of the LORD, -HE counts the number of the stars; and HE calls them all by name.- That's Psalm 147 verse 4. The modern telescopes show that there are millions of stars reaching out into space and so infinite that men do not have numerical figures sufficient to measure their distances. Yet the WORD OF GOD tells us the number of these stars and -HE calls them all by name.- Job said, -For now YOU number my step...- You'll find that in Job 14 verse 16. If it were so in the case of Job, is it not so in the case of all people? When we think of all the steps taken by all the men who ever lived and then realize that GOD numbered them all, then we can better understand the words of the Psalmist when he said, -Great is our LORD, and might in power; HIS understanding is infinite.- That's Psalm 147 verse 5. Again Job said, -Since his days are determined, the number of his months is with YOU...- That's found in Job 14 verse 5. Jesus said that not a sparrow could fall to the ground without the FATHER's notice and that the very hairs of the heads of HIS people are all numbered. That's found in Matthew 10 verses 29-30. And when we think of all of the many sparrows that have fallen to the earth and the countless billions of hairs that have been on the heads of people since the beginning of time and how the number of hairs on different heads are changing from day to day then we can indeed say, -Hallelujah, how our GOD is a GOD of numbers and that HIS knowledge is truly infinite!- Jesus said, concerning the law, -Till Heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.- That's in Matthew 5 verse 18, and every word and every letter in the WORD OF GOD was in HIS mind before a line of it was ever written; even the numbers within the WORD were known to HIM before they were penned. This will be seen as I go into the numbers with you in this book because indeed, our GOD is great and infinite in HIS understanding. There are many incidents in Scripture showing evidence of the numerical design of the HOLY NUMBERS OF GOD which run all through the bible; for instance, the distance around the Tabernacle was 300 cubits. -The length of the court shall be one hundred cubits, the width fifty throughout, and the height five cubits...- That's found in Exodus 27 verse 18. Now, the two long sides were 100 cubits each, the two ends were 50 cubits each. Two times 100 plus two time 50 equals 300 cubits. -You shall make an altar of acacia wood, five cubits long and five wide-the altar shall be square and its height shall be three cubits.- That's Exodus 27 verse 1. The product of the number connected with the altar is 300, the number of cubits around the Court. Five times five is 25, four times 25 is 100 and three times 100 is 300. On this altar within the Court the Priest offered the sacrifice. In I Chronicles 24 verses 1-19 there are found 24 divisions of the Priesthood. These are the divisions of the sons of Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, but among the sons of Eleazar there were 16 chief men of the house of their fathers and eight among the sons of Ithamar; sixteen and eight make 24. When all the numbers from one to 24 are added the sum is 300, the number of cubits around the court; and Noah's ark was 300 cubits long; the distance around the Court of the Tabernacle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces theological hermeneutics by giving a historical account of the development of hermeneutical thinking. It defines hermeneutics as the analysis of the obstacles to understanding. The history of hermeneutical thinking and responses to obstacles is told here, beginning with the allegorical interpretation of myths in Hellenism through to the contemporary view of the hermeneutical problem as universal. Following the opening chapters on the history of hermeneutical thought, the book presents an overview of the various contemporary hermeneutical schools of thought, and shows their rooted-ness in different parts of the hermeneutical tradition. The focus is clearly on biblical interpretation however it does also take account of developments outside the field of theology, as they influence the theological reflection on the hermeneutical problem. The questions raised and the possible answers suggested in this volume will be of interest to students of other disciplines, such as philosophy and literature.

Book excerpt: Mathematics and the Divine seem to correspond to diametrically opposed tendencies of the human mind. Does the mathematician not seek what is precisely defined, and do the objects intended by the mystic and the theologian not lie beyond definition? Is mathematics not Man's search for a measure, and isn’t the Divine that which is immeasurable ? The present book shows that the domains of mathematics and the Divine, which may seem so radically separated, have throughout history and across cultures, proved to be intimately related. Religious activities such as the building of temples, the telling of ritual stories or the drawing of enigmatic figures all display distinct mathematical features. Major philosophical systems dealing with the Absolute and theological speculations focussing on our knowledge of the Ultimate have been based on or inspired by mathematics. A series of chapters by an international team of experts highlighting key figures, schools and trains of thought is presented here. Chinese number mysticism, the views of Pythagoras and Plato and their followers, Nicholas of Cusa's theological geometry, Spinozism and intuitionism as a philosophy of mathematics are treated side by side among many other themes in an attempt at creating a global view on the relation of mathematics and Man’s quest for the Absolute in the course of history. · Mathematics and man's quest for the Absolute · A selective history highlighting key figures, schools and trains of thought · An international team of historians presenting specific new findings as well as general overviews · Confronting and uniting otherwise compartmentalized information

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revelation is a wake-up call, not a blueprint for the final apocalypse. John spotlights corrupt human politics while unveiling the coming of the true King, Jesus Christ. Followers of Christ are shown as witnesses to the coming King and worshipers of the Lamb of God. In this volume of the New Testament Everyday Bible Study series, Scot McKnight boldly tackles political issues, transcending party lines to expose the danger of equating America with God’s kingdom. Revelation unveils sins that beset first century Christians and still beset us today: idolatry, immorality, and injustice. Fortunately, the book also provides us imaginative visions of how followers of Jesus are to live when surrounded by these timeless sins. John tells readers that we are blessed by God if we listen, learn, and follow the words of Jesus, worshiping God alongside the hosts of heaven. Be empowered to courageously dissent against corrupt powers and shine a light in a world of darkness. In the New Testament Everyday Bible Study Series, widely respected biblical scholar Scot McKnight combines interpretive insights with pastoral wisdom for all the books of the New Testament. Each volume provides: Original Meaning. Brief, precise expositions of the biblical text and offers a clear focus for the central message of each passage. Fresh Interpretation. Brings the passage alive with fresh images and what it means to follow King Jesus. Practical Application. Biblical connections and questions for reflection and application for each passage. The NIV is used as the primary Bible text but McKnight also includes insights from his own translation of the entire New Testament. Each Bible study features a short, compact, clear exposition that both summarizes the whole and gives the reader a clear focus for what is central to the passage.

JUSTIN MARTYR (A.D. 160), IRENAEUS (A.D.180), CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA (A.D. 195), TERULLIAN (A.D. 210), CYRIAN (A.D. 250), VICTORINUS (A.D. 280), METHODIUS (A.D. 290), AND MANY OTHER EARLY CHURCH MINISTERS AND THEOLOGIANS WROTE OF THE COMPLEX MATHEMATICAL DESIGNS IN SCRIPTURE THAT PROVED ONLY A MASTER MATHEMATICIAN COULD HAVE DIRECTED THIS NUMERICAL CONSTRUCTION. THE FACT THAT THE SIXTY-SIX BOOKS OF THE BIBLE, WRITTEN OVER A PERIOD OF SIXTEEN HUNDRED YEARS BY FORTY OR MORE WRITERS, MOST NOT HAVING PRECEDING OR SUCCEEDING BOOKS, YET CONTINUING THE AMAZING MATHEMATICAL PATTERNS, PROVES THAT A MASTER MATHEMATICIAN WAS IN CHARGE. WHILE SOME BOOKS ON THIS SUBJECT DROWN THE READER WITH DRY STATISTICS, NOAH HUTCHINGS HAS WRITTEN ONE THAT IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND; ONE THAT WILL INCREASE THE CHRISTIANS' FAITH IN THE BIBLE AS THE WORD OF GOD; AND PROVE TO THE UNSAVED THAT THE MASTER MATHEMATICIAN WHO INSPIRED THE SCRIPTURES IS THE SAME LORD JESUS CHRIST WHO IS ABLE TO SAVE TO THE UTTERMOST ALL WHO COME TO HIM IN FAITH.

By looking at influential Christian thinkers throughout history, we can identify wisdom that enriches us today in practical ways. Words and Witnesses explores various influential Christian thinkers and theologians from across church history in order to expand our contemporary conversations in communication studies and media theory. Individual chapters written by contributing scholars focus on major Christian thinkers, starting with Athanasius, St. Augustine, and John Chrysostom, moving through the Middle Ages to address figures such as Anselm, Nicholas of Cusa, Teresa of Lisieux, and arriving in the present with reflections on the work of John Howard Yoder, C. S. Lewis, Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Kuyper, and Desmond Tutu, among others. Each chapter delves into how the contemporary church, and scholars of media, can turn to these influential Christian thinkers as resources for addressing specific problems in communication today. By analyzing church practices, doctrine, and biblical texts this book provides the church with resources and inspiration to communicate in distinctly Christian ways.

He builds further on this idea here, presenting a christological basis for ministry and pastoral theology.

This book explores some little (two letter) words in the Bible that make a BIG difference. Many little words are explored. IN, for instance, is an important little word: Therefore, if anyone is IN Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17. When we are IN Christ, we are a temple of the Holy Spirit. In order to fully benefit from being His temple, we need to be instructed (structured) using material from His word. I have found that paying attention to little words gives more insight into, and more powerful meaning to, Bible passages. Hopefully, a year in this book of devotions will help in your understanding, appreciation, and use of the Bible. Each month begins with a definition of that month’s little word with information about its power and usage. The definition is followed by a verse for each day of the month using that little word with thoughts for meditation and spiritual growth. I wish for you the love, joy, grace, and peace of God. Please enjoy the impact of LITTLE WORDS!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The comprehensive and engaging introduction to contemporary Christianity, revised and updated The second edition of Understanding Christian Doctrine presents a completely updated and revised edition that builds on the most popular features of the first edition to offer a lively overview to the central beliefs of Christianity. Ian S Markham, a noted authority of Christianity, discusses the great thinkers of the Christian tradition and puts them in conversation with contemporary progressive theologies in a book that goes from Augustine, Aquinas, and Luther to Liberationist, Feminist, and Queer theologies. Designed to be a basic primer, the text is written in a manner that assumes the reader has no prior knowledge of theology or Christian doctrine. The book is designed to present the basic options in all the key areas of Christianity as well as information on how to make complex theological decisions. The author tackles all the key questions from creation to eschatology. Furthermore, Markham makes his own distinctive contribution: he argues that theodicy (traditionally seen as a major difficulty with belief) is actually a theme that links many aspects of Christian doctrine. The revised second edition includes a wealth of new information, including: A lively and comprehensive introduction to Christianity that assumes no prior knowledge of the faith An overview to the great thinkers of Christian tradition that puts them in conversation with progressive liberationist theologies Suggestions that help even the most skeptical to learn to understand and possibly embrace theological assertions Breakout boxes that explain the significance of the text’s various philosophical ideas and positions The text is ideal for anyone interested in learning about the foundations of Christianity as well as new ideas about the faith. Christianity is presented in a manner that embraces the richness of the tradition and affirms the central claims of the historical creeds, while engaging with liberationist challenges to the tradition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karl Barth (1886-1968) is generally acknowledged to be the most important European Protestant theologian of the twentieth century, a figure whose importance for Christian thought compares with that of Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, John Calvin, Martin Luther, and Friedrich Schleiermacher. Author of the Epistle to the Romans, the multi-volume Church Dogmatics, and a wide range of other works - theological, exegetical, historical, political, pastoral, and homiletic - Barth has had significant and perduring influence on the contemporary study of theology and on the life of contemporary churches. In the last few decades, his work has been at the centre of some of the most important interpretative, critical, and constructive developments in in the fields of Christian theology, philosophy of religion, and religious studies. The Oxford Handbook of Karl Barth is the most expansive guide to Barth's work published to date. Comprising over forty original chapters, each of which is written by an expert in the field, the Handbook provides rich analysis of Barth's life and context, advances penetrating interpretations of the key elements of his thought, and opens and charts new paths for critical and constructive reflection. In the process, it seeks to illuminate the complex and challenging world of Barth's theology, to engage with it from multiple perspectives, and to communicate something of the joyful nature of theology as Barth conceived it. It will serve as an indispensable resource for undergraduates, postgraduates, academics, and general readers for years to come.
