Book excerpt: The mission of The United Methodist Church is to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” In order to carry out this mission, The United Methodist Church has defined seven pathways of ministry: developing new churches, transforming existing congregations, ending racism through expanding racial and ethnic ministries, teaching the Wesleyan model of discipleship, strengthening clergy and lay leadership, reaching and transforming the lives of new generations, and eliminating poverty in community with the poor. The United Methodist Council on Korean Ministries/Korean Ministry Plan has a vision to strengthen small group ministries for the local church to fulfill the mission of The United Methodist Church. The Korean Ministry Plan partnered with the National Association of Korean United Methodists to develop training material for small group ministry leaders that incorporated both Wesleyan tradition and Korean spirituality. This material was developed with the purpose of leading churches to confess Jesus Christ as Lord and for individuals to realize their individual spiritual gifts so that they could serve the local church and community better. Thus, we United Methodists may be disciples of Jesus Christ who experience the power of the Holy Spirit to transform the world. We welcome you into this journey of discipleship in small group ministry. We are genuinely looking forward to meeting you. —Bishop Hee-Soo Jung, President of the Korean Ministry Plan

This book was released on 1995 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this dissertation is the design and evaluation of a leadership development program entitled Discipleship for Leadership. The purpose of this project is to evaluate the design of the Discipleship for Leadership material and its effect on those who participated in the program. The hypothesis is: "Laymen will recognize and develop their leadership potential in much the same way the disciples did when they are confronted with the same simple principles Jesus taught His disciples after He first called them to follow Him." This dissertation reveals three different test instruments which measure growth from general attitudes to specific numerically valued changes in those who participated in the program. The instruments used were in the form of personal interviews, extensive surveys and personal inventories. The personal inventories required the development of a computer program which will expedite a continual evaluation of future participants of Discipleship for Leadership. The conclusion reached as the result of this research of the leadership program Discipleship for Leadership significantly validates the hypothesis.

Download or read book Mobilizing for the Common Good written by Peter Slade and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2013-07-11 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born into a sharecropping family in New Hebron, Mississippi, in 1930, and only receiving a third-grade education, John M. Perkins has been a pioneering prophetic African American voice for reconciliation and social justice to America's white evangelical churches. Often an unwelcome voice and always a passionate, provocative clarion, Perkins persisted for forty years in bringing about the formation of the Christian Community Development Association—a large network of evangelical churches and community organizations working in America's poorest communities—and inspired the emerging generation of young evangelicals concerned with releasing the Church from its cultural captivity and oppressive materialism. John M. Perkins has received surprisingly little attention from historians of modern American religious history and theologians. Mobilizing for the Common Good is an exploration of his theological significance. With contributions from theologians, historians, and activists, this book contends that Perkins ushered in a paradigm shift in twentieth-century evangelical theology that continues to influence Christian community development projects and social justice activists today.

Book Synopsis Building Leaders by : Aubrey Malphurs
Download or read book Building Leaders written by Aubrey Malphurs and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2004-03-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Training the next generation of leaders is crucial to spreading the gospel, yet most churches have no formal way of doing this. Why? Tight budgets, small staffs, and a lack of know-how are just a few reasons suggested by church consultants Aubrey Malphurs and William Mancini in this groundbreaking book. Building Leaders provides real-life examples of ways churches can unleash their true ministry potential by training staff members and laypeople to lead. With step-by-step instructions that can be applied to any church or parachurch ministry, Building Leaders shows readers how to: - empower, not just train, leaders - overcome obstacles to developing leaders - identify emerging leaders - use biblical models for training leaders - form a leadership training program to fit any size or budget Packed with surveys, discussion questions, and a leadership development guide, Building Leaders will encourage leaders to "duplicate themselves" in order to see their ministry grow. It is a perfect resource for ministry students, church leaders, and pastors.
