This book was released on 1969 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present grammar has been prepared with a view to meet the growing educational need of university students. The author has done his best to bring the present grammar up to the requirements of the students. In writing the various chapters of this book, the author has closely followed Pannini, as explained by Bhattoji Diksita. Many of the rules given here are translations of the relevant Sutras of Panini. The original Sutras are given in footnotes, where necessary. Sandhis and declensions are fully treated; compounds which dominate classical Sanskrit literature have received special attention; formation of feminine bases has been illustrated; Taddhita affixes have been arranged in an alphabetical order. A special feature of the present grammar is the chapter on the Conjugation of Verbs. The general rules given are amply illustrated by examples. All the verbs which change their pada when preceded by particular prepositions are given in an alphabetical order. The chapter on Syntax contains almost everything given in the first 20 chapters of author's Guide to Sanskrit Composition; the chapter on Prosody is based on the Chandomanjari and the Vrttaratnakara. The author has spared no pains to make the book as useful and as complete as possible.
Book Synopsis The Roots of the Bhagavadgita Volume I (b) by : Gerard DC Kuiken
Download or read book The Roots of the Bhagavadgita Volume I (b) written by Gerard DC Kuiken and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-08-12 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work aims for a translation close to what is found in the Sanskrit text. All translators make choices based on their background and understanding of the context of a text. Not knowing Sanskrit, a reader has to accept the translator's choices. By providing a dictionary, which includes the inflected forms occurring in the Sanskrit verses, the reader can accept the translation, change it, and/or gain a deeper understanding of the Sanskrit verse under consideration. Using the Index of Verb Forms, a student of Sanskrit can find examples of inflected forms applied in the 320 verses of the Bhagavadgita translated in this book. The Index of Meanings gives the underlying meaning of the root of a verb. In the introduction to each chapter, comments on the Svabhavikasutra and the Bhagavadgita are compared.

Book Synopsis The Indo-Aryan Languages by : Danesh Jain
Download or read book The Indo-Aryan Languages written by Danesh Jain and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-07-26 with total page 1086 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Indo-Aryan languages are spoken by at least 700 million people throughout India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldive Islands. They have a claim to great antiquity, with the earliest Vedic Sanskrit texts dating to the end of the second millennium B.C. With texts in Old Indo-Aryan, Middle Indo-Aryan and Modern Indo-Aryan, this language family supplies a historical documentation of language change over a longer period than any other subgroup of Indo-European. This volume is divided into two main sections dealing with general matters and individual languages. Each chapter on the individual language covers the phonology and grammar (morphology and syntax) of the language and its writing system, and gives the historical background and information concerning the geography of the language and the number of its speakers.

Book Synopsis Reflexivity in Vedic by : Verónica Orqueda
Download or read book Reflexivity in Vedic written by Verónica Orqueda and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflexivity in Vedic offers a corpus-based synchronic and diachronic analysis of reflexivity in the language of the R̥gveda and Atharvaveda, two of the most ancient corpora ever composed in an Indo-European language. Applying a functional and cognitivist framework, Verónica Orqueda discusses the different possible strategies and proposes a distribution determined by the interaction between reflexivity, transitivity and valency. This study enriches typological approaches to the emergence of reflexives and therefore, on the basis of the Vedic data, it shows that nominal reflexive strategies may especially arise in contexts of underspecified verbal valency.
Book Synopsis Democracy and World Language Education by : Timothy Reagan
Download or read book Democracy and World Language Education written by Timothy Reagan and published by IAP. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book challenges the reader to consider issues of language and linguistic discrimination as they impact world language education. Using the nexus of race, language, and education as a lens through which one can better understand the role of the world language education classroom as both a setting of oppression and as a potential setting for transformation, Democracy and World Language Education: Toward a Transformation offers insights into a number of important topics. Among the issues that are addressed in this timely book are linguicism, the ideology of linguistic legitimacy, raciolinguistics, and critical epistemology. Specific cases and case studies that are explored in detail include the contact language Spanglish, African American English, and American Sign Language. The book also includes critical examinations of the less commonly taught languages, the teaching of classical languages (primarily Latin and Greek), and the paradoxical learning and speaking of “critical languages” that are supported primarily for purposes of national security (Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Russian, etc.).
